Such huge teams they send and barely a runner or hurdler advancing beyond heats. To be fair, well represented in the repechage though. Fully funded at taxpayer expense and no accountability for results.

This is the most successful Olympic Games Australia has had in terms of total gold medals, and they've won 6 medals in athletics so far (2 x race walk, 2 x HJ, and 1 x PV). We have 2 women in the javelin final (including medal hopeful Mackenzie Little), and Jess Hull will be a serious medal threat in the 1500.
Some serious young talent in Hollingsworth and Peyton Craig who advanced to the 800m semis as teenagers. Few extremely young sprinters as well. I'm hard pressed to think there will be much disappointment on AAs side of things.
I don't think there have been too many major disappointments outside of the men's 1500 - but even there I think the best hope was Ollie making the final as I don't think he was a medal chance. Georgia perhaps unlucky not to make the final in the 1500, but that was an insane semi-final. But otherwise athletes performed as form/personal bests would predict.
All track and field funding should go to the walks and field events. Every other track event (including the marathon) should be merit based. Currently it is a waste of taxpayers money.
But I read on the LetsRun message board that the entire Australian team was making ridiculous progress and many were moving to a certain location where PEDs were being given. Based on what I read, I assumed that Australia would have three finalists in every distance event and get at least one medal in every event.
Are you telling me that stuff I read on the message board is not accurate and much of it is simply made up "facts"? 😥
Horrible performances on the track (Jess Hull excluded).
Are people from australia naive, oblivious or just willfully ignorant to not notice how suspicious the progression of underlined person in quote above is?

Craig and Hollingsworth ran well to make their 800 semi finals and have plenty upside for the future, Caldwell ran well to win her repechage.
I was hoping McDonald would make the final but didn't have much hope until the last 50 metres that he would, and then he nearly got there.
Hoare was crap and I was thinking that making the final would be a realistic result for him, he must be sick or really badly peaked.
Other than that was just typical MTC failing to perform.
Excited to see how the Aussie women go in the marathon, Lisa Weightman ran a 48:41 15k last Sunday and this Sunday she's running the Australian half marathon champs, so hopefully the Aussie women run well in paris because I'm sure Lisa will run well.

Many (if not most) definitely aren't fully funded. And I wouldn't say there's no accountability for results.
Lots of athletes (if funded) will either have their funding reduced or completely cut following a bad result at a major championship.
Not to mention, these results will also factor into future team selections.
You need to realise that Australia (regardless of how well the country performs in other sports) is still only a nation of 27 million. Athletics is a truly global sport, in which almost every country in the world participates. You're just not gonna see Australian contenders in every event like you would in swimming. There's just too much depth in the rest of the world for that.

Fingers crossed for Lisa on Sunday; she’s set for a great time.
1) To be "well-represented in the repechage" you have to lose a lot. Maybe you jest
2) Your Stewart McSweyn guy was the almost-as-good-as-Jakob character for years and then showed up doing nothing. What's your excuse, cause it's winter for the Australian race?
