I don't feel bad for any of them with the contemptable attitudes, or the consequences of their actions.
But, hypothetically,
What happens if there is no DNA match and never any felony charges? Even with no match, the police will have to concoct something to save face with the public out for blood. But these kid's lawyers will have a field day filing 46 claims against Duke and others who destroyed their names and reputations.
The coach resigned today.

Let a Duke grad speak:
Entire affair, at a minimum, is an absolute disgrace and has brought immense shame to Duke University.
I wish Duke would stop ALL athletic scholarships in ALL sports, and withdraw from ACC. Even aside from basketball ( men & women ) there has been too much emphasis on recruiting hotsy totsie rich HS kids, be it in golf, tennis, soccer, track/cc etc. and last but not least lacrosse. And football's a lost cause anyway. Duke has truly lost its way with this excessive emphasis on Athletics.
Duke and all other schools should be about EDUCATION not hiring a bunch of athletes to promote the school.
I will be advising Duke University's President of my opinion very shortly.
Trailrunner- Kindly shut the f**k up. Much like the lacrosse players in comparison with the rest of Duke athletes, your are not representative of the majority of the Duke community. Do you really think your Duke diploma would mean as much without the attention Duke basketball has brought to the university.
Completely uncalled for response Ballin. I am trying to show that many Duke grads truly know that the school is or should be a lot bigger than Sports.
You owe me an apology.
I'm just glad Duke is finally getting the black eye its athletic program has so richly deserved for decades.
Great school, dirty as hell athletic program.
even if you are a duke grad, you mention duke track/cc in even the same sphere of this planet as duke lacrosse, Buddha will curse you Kharma until you're a roach in your next life. Those girls and guys run their hearts out and make the school a better place to be, and not only that serve as models that the rest of the student body and grad's like you should look up to and support.
You would have us seriously BELIEVE Duke is not more well respected for student athletes such as JJ Redick (even though he plays basketball he is the best) and Clara Horowitz? Honestly, if you really cared about Duke you would take these outstanding individuals into consideration instead of stomping on them and their accomplishments. Shame on you.

Yeah, lets all emulate Horowitz and the other Duke girls. Lets teach other young girls that you can be a really good distance runner if you are anorexic.
Trailrunner, As much as I enjoy sports there is merit in what your saying. However I dont think the school presidents are ready to walk from the money.
St.Johns College in Annapolis has no varsity sports program. Earlier in the 20th century a football player was killed during a game. The President of the United States barred football and then allowed it again. St.Johns decided against bringing any sports back.
Inside St.Johns very old beautiful gym there are plaques from bowl games and other major sporting events from years ago. My point in telling this story is colleges have been dealing with this issue for quite sometime. BTW, St.Johns is not a catholic school. They study the classics from what I understand.
I also mentioned Redick. BTW Horowitz and the Duke girls are far better people than you would ever be. yes anorexia is bad bla bla bla, but if done correctly you really can emulate the east africans. Young girls need to learn being fat is a bad thing, jesus look at Star Jones, you don't want that running around eating your minivan do you?
Duke is a very good school. It does not depend on BB or any other sport to be a very good school.
God Clara Horowitz is hot though I had the pleasure to sit across from her on the bus ride to the Armory. She's GORGEOUS!!
Listen to OMBTS and learn. Duke is never going to walk away from the ACC payday that comes with playing the non-academics at VT, FSU and Miami. Unfortunate for the Duke football team, but true. Those poor saps are fodder and the subsidy for the sports that the Duke community really cares about.
This sick affair at one school simply points out the deal with the devil many of these places have made. The good comes with the bad, and this particular scandal could have happened anywhere there are arrogant and spoiled lacrosse players, or it just as easily could have happened with a white girl dancing for 40 black football players at some football factory full of NFL-Light players. There are plenty of other colleges of "higher learning" where these pigs dwell. So don't tell me that the attitudes of these boys is some exclusive thing at Duke. Give me a freaking break. Duke is the scapegoat, but deservedly suffering, for a huge problem in collegiate America.
a better answer may be to dump the coaches who recruit these hotsy totsie rich kids and get some coaches who can recruit some kids with character and actually promote development in sport and in life. some may hate bobby knight but i believe he only recruited and signed one high school all-american (isiah thomas) preferring to work with and develop kids who could be successful on the court and in life.
I realize your point about BK and how he develops young men (see his graduation rates and loyalty towards him among the huge majority of former players) both with and without chokeholds and whips. However, I don't think Thomas was his only HS AA. I'm not sure who any of the rest might be, but I am pretty sure that Damon Bailey was a HS AA, I remember him being featured (as possibly the player of the year?) in Parade magazine his senior year of HS.
In college lacrosse, you simply cannot recruit the less-All American HS athletes and get to the Final Four today. Fact of life. The other problem is that, supposedly, these were kids of high esteem in their high schools. Kids with "good parents" and obviously got stellar grades.
We really don't have a real system of judging character in the majority of cases. And I don't buy for a second that Coach Bob Knight was some great selector of character. He simply scared his kids shitless. That was his basic secret to success. Obviously the Duke coach didn't buy into the Knight system.

See is the EXACT pompous crap that makes Duke look bad. Because you guys are arrogant! You are "too good" to be advertised by the athletics at your school. I know boosters and supporters of schools....and winning talks and brings in the mighty dollar. All the TV contracts in the world do not compare to the amount of money pompous, rich jerks like yourself have put back into the athletic programs. And to compare other sports to Lacrosse is pretty gross.
That guy doesn't owe you an apology, you owe all of us an apology for being a jerk!
and if you went to Campbell University, YOU owe all of us an apology for your choice.
