Jakob is less than a second off the world record, and is still the defending Olympic 1500 chance. Just give it a few more years and we will see him in the 10k. For now, enjoy watching him running incredible times at his off distance.
“Jakob is a marathon guy running down, sub 2 will be easy for him”
His true talents? So he ran 3:26.73 and it's not even his true talent? Is he going to run a sub 25 in 10000 or what?
As incredible as it is I think OP has a point. We all know Jakob is a strength based 1500 guy. We also know he is the two time defending WORLD CHAMP in the 5k. And we know that he has probably done more threshold work since the age of 8 than any other runner in history. So even though he is one of the greats all time at 1500m, you have to imagine his potential is even greater at 5000m, 10000m, and even HM/Marathon. He’s also still only 23. Is it really out of the question to think he breaks the 5000m WR in the next 2-3 years? And if he does that, what is to stop him from moving up to the roads once he is 28/29/30 and having Kipchoge/Bekele level success?

Chebet and Hassan are incredible outliers when it comes to range. They can run as well for 10000m, as they do for 1500m, but there has never been a male runner that can do so.
Ingebrigtsen is not superman. If he is potentially as good in the HM, he could run something like 12:25 for the 5.
If the schedule is right in a championship he will run. He said to a norwegian newspaper earlier this week that if the 10k was at the end of the Olympics he would have done it.
He has said multiple times he's not leaving the 1500 until he believes he's reached his potential. Given he has dropped his PB both of the last two seasons, I see little reason for him to believe that he has reached his potential. I think once we see a full, healthy season from him where he does not improve on his 1500 or mile PB, he will move to the 5k.
As far as distances beyond 5k: his training and past success indicates that he is better at the 3kand 5k than 1500, but there is little indication he is better at 10k+ than 3k/5k. Personally, I think he will be a great championship 10k runner in a few years, and likely win the double 5k/10k in LA, but I am unconvinced he will break the WR. The roads I definitely think will be difficult for him, and I don't really see him running 57 in the half or 2:00-2:02 in the full, but stranger things have happened. Too far off to make a reasonable prediction about.

I think the fact that he’s already dominated euro cross country says something about his range though

Is he likely to double 5K/10K in LA rather than 1500/5K?

Either 15/5 or the triple.
Depends on the Lord's schedule.
"Where is true talents are" Bro he won the gold medal in Tokyo and he's only 23 ya'll tryna crucify him over this is just crazy lol
Said Aouita had amazing range. Beat gold medalist Joaquim Cruz at 800 m, had 5000 m WR, and probably could have run good HM if he wanted to run the roads.
Who in the hell wants Jakob to leave the 1500m.? It's the best event in track, and he's made it better, elevated it. Without Jakob, nobody will have the balls to take risks and we will be back to 3:35 Olympic finals and "race for the ages" would be thing of the past.
His 1500m efforts/speed is part of what makes him good at 5km, focusing on 5/10 might not even work for him.. there's a reason not many 10km runners are as big as Jakob.
On the track, Jakob is what 'pre' was shooting to be.
Stay where you are Jakob, keep taking risks, they may not always work out for you but anyone who loves track appreciates it!
Probably would be easiest for him to keep running the 1500m in Diamond League races and then step up a distance for major championships (5k/10k). He'd never have to worry about tactics again. But then again maybe he doesn't want what's easiest.

That is a more viable option, esp with the track league going 800/1500 which won't suit him.
