Kerr and Jakob both sprint off the line, it's 39 seconds through the first 300 and yet they have no trouble keeping the pace. The rest of the field are fading away... the two up front run down the back straight side by side, step by step, they stay in sync despite the effort beginning to show.
They hit the bell on world record pace, the commentators and crowd cannot believe what they are seeing. Still they run side by side as they both kick for home. Down the home straight now, who's gonna win the gold?
Then as if out of nowhere, the ghost of George Mills trips over Jakob and he stumbles, taking down Kerr with him! Both take a few seconds to get up and as they do they get a front row seat to a pair of prime farmer's cheeks blasting through the finish line.

Gentlemen, the Summer of George has come to an unexpected end. He really looked burnt out in all 3 races, not sure how a 200km/week guy benefitting from a taper can look that gassed.
