ok, just to clear this up.
One country does not compete vs or take on another country. (Most of the people in the country are fat, unathletic persons who do not do sports).
Individuals or team do the competing.
An individual from a small town for instance, is not competing vs larger town/cites, they are competing vs other athletes where ever they may be from.
furthermore, there are no bonuses or penalties based on the size of the country the person represents. The score starts 0-0 every time. Don't believe - look it up.

Julien Alfred didn't just beat the best of the USA, she beat the best of the world, including China, UK, France. Btw, the latter three countries, with a combined population >1.5 billion, did not medal in the women's 100m, while the USA took silver and bronze.
