Which commentators? The gentlemen on Eurosport didn't say any of this garbage.

I'm sorry but this is way overblown.

1. "No behavioral etiquette" but he allows everyone to go ahead in front of him so it doesn't matter.

2. "Forgot he needed to go to the front". Legitmately everybody who watches Jakob in any other heats of championships knows he likes to start out slow and catch up by around 300m. If Rob Walker said this, I've lost all respect for him as a commentator.

3. Why does he need to win his heat? ANYBODY WHO PLACES TOP 6 GETS IN. There is no advantage in winning a heat. Truly a terrible take.

4. Because he celebrates in what was one of the most tame celebrations ever "a fist pump gesture" LOL, he has "mental and emotional baggage" WTF please tell me you are making this up. This commentator is probably a brit who wants to F*ck kerr.

I watched it online, not sure which broadcaster that was. I think it was ESPN.

The goal is to win the final, and advance in the heats and semis.

Jakob is an honest guy. He took an easy start as usual, not feeling the need to stand sharp at the start line. Why shuld he? To fake a quick start?

And the gesture at the finish line? I think all runners, no matter how good you are, feel a bit worried about the prelims. `cause you never know what will happen. He did his job and he is glad it all went fine. I think it is a honest thing to show you're happy.

It did not look as smooth as Kerr though. But it's not necessary a bad sign to have a bit heavy legs in the prelims. He is conserving energy for the final.

But Kerr looks terrific. My guess is Kerr #1, Jakob #2 and T. Cheriout #3.

That's my pick as well. In general I think the consensus is Kerr is winning the gold after this performance in his heat. Looked way too good.

But I definitely didn't hear it wrongly. The commentary was scathing with that fist pump gesture and clearly said Jakob had shown disrespectful (yet again) to his competitors. Seems like the commentary knew what occurred between Budapest and now. They had done their research and saw that Jakob had a history of bad ethics in sport.

The only thing that matters, is what happens in the final.

No behavioral etiquette refers to him frequently emotional fist pumping and for today he stood tall on the start line with his head hung low while the rest were crouched in at attack position. Commentator called him out for disrespectful and poor etiquette. Even questioned why he was so haphazard and whether he has crossed the boundary.

He forgot to go to the front because he got boxed in so bad and need to put out a hand to beg for access to the outer lane. And that was at the final 200m mark which is considered very late and risky. Josh Kerr was also boxxed in but he moved from 350m out so less risk.

Commentator said if Jakob left it so late until 200m out then what if he tripped and fall he cannot recover the distance as compared to if he was out leading by 10 meters. He can still recoup the distance if anything happens. But of course if he is out leading he wouldn't fall and nothing will happen.

Yes top 6 qualifies but honestly in practice if you win the heat it's actually better on many fronts psychological. There's an unseen and unspoken 'edge' that nobody really talks about but it exists. If you are a competitor, you will know but if you are sitting behind a computer screen you don't give a damn.

Commentator question whether Jakob was a bit unfounded in his actions of fist pumping and called that very disrespectful repeatedly and even referenced his verbal barb with Josh Kerr throughout the race. He even brought up the excuse Jakob used when he loss saying he was sick as disrespectful.
