Jakob seems to start standing straight up rather than leaning to the line, jogging right to the back as the gun goes off. The commentators mentioned that he might be taking it too far - is Jakob being disrespectful to his competitors or is he just a dawg?
he is not being disrespectful. how is his race tactics offensive? the commentators just hate jakob for being better then kerr. he jogs out at the start becuase he knows he doesnt have to sprint becuase it is pointless wasting enregy at the start of the first heat.
He is trying to not waste energy on a field he knows he can place top 6 in regardless. You fans are obsessive over every little detail, labelling it as disrespect, its funny.
We already have ample evidence to know that Jakob doesn’t respect his competitors.

its just the natural way of starting when you plan to go out easy :-) He is never in charge from the gun, he normally goes out slow in the back of the pack, so why stand on the startline like youre going to sprint out?
Why are runners such babies anytime someone is mildly confident? Jakob and Kerr for that matter too, would be considered so mild in other sports.

Have you seen the first 50m of elite 1500/miles lately? Why sprint off the line and risk going down in a tangle of bodies if you’re by far the fittest guy in the field?

Agreed. This is what Jakob had to say to Discovery post-race: "I could feel the pace picking up pretty early on, and I think in championships people forget you need to keep a pace you can maintain all the way to the finish. I knew we were running fast and a lot of guys were gonna fade. It worked out well on the backstretch when I made my move, then it was just about controlling it to the finish and avoiding any mishaps."

If you like Jakob, then he was brilliant! He knows there are rounds and he wants to save energy so he can defend his Olympic Title.
I don't know if the commentators hate him or not. I don't know if they are disrespecting him because I can't see their true feelings. Commentators seem to set up sides as a way to create interest in the process. Bottom line for me: regardless of what the intentions were or what Jakob was thinking, he made it through the first round, which is all he needed to do.

I don't think it was disrespectful.
I do think it was a bit stupid cause he almost got it wrong and was lucky the spanish (?) runner backed off to let him out.
I think if he told the truth, he'd admit it wasn't his usual tactics and he was more trapped than ideal.

How's that playing with fire? It's reading the race. Rewatch it and see how for example Tanner stays on the back, tries to go, ends up on the back, goes again, meanwhile Jakob just goes constant.

Exactly. And seeing first 2 heats he knew it will go ~60sec 1st lap and that's how he started. If he knew it would actually go 63 then he would even went slower. Why going 13sec first 100m if you can do it in 15?
Not nearly as bad as his multiple water breaks in the 5,000m finals in 2022.
How? He was, by far, the best kicker in that heat.

Yea he is way better than kerr, way better at being cocky in the prelims and then losing in the finals. I hope jakob proves me wrong, but I guarantee he loses in the finals. He will then turn around and say he was sick / fatigued. Again, I hope he proves me wrong.
