Yeah thats what I was thinking too, doesn't make too much sense to take it out quick on a guy who might be in WR shape. Gonna be 1999 all over again. Makes sense for Tim, who runs 1:44 low, to make it a slow race.

The Kenyans can plan and think what they like. They don't have the speed of Kerr or the endurance of Jakob. My gut is that none will medal.

Yeah, go out hard and sacrifice yourselves so the medals can be shared by Jakob, Kerr, and Laros.

I'd say it's only 50/50 that all 3 Kenyans get to the final.

More likely Komen is an explosive starter so he would take the lead and then Reynold and Tim would queue up and they would not be scrapping for position amongst themselves. I doubt they’d do much from there unless Jakob changes course. But setting up a straightforward race where they dominate the top 5 positions early would be the goal.

Agree no guarantee all 3 make it, but they did all look good.

I think the Kenyans running some team tactics caught Jakob off guard in the last WC (?) and made him take some unfortunate choices if I remember correctly.

Yes Kipsang and Tim wanted to lead/control it and Jakob stubbornly fought off their surges. This year if they try again I bet he’d just wait til 700m to go

What’s their game plan then if they all hypothetically made it to the final? Would it be to their benefit, to have a fast, blistering pace (to strengthen Tim C or even Komen’s chances)? Or slow it down, and keep the door open for the slower finalist who have great last 200/400 speed? I’m very curious with how this might be taken out. It could all be talk to get involved with the mind games.

Maybe the Kenyans mean they’ll spike and trip Kerr and Jakob - and woke officials will let them get away with it.

They're just going to run three-wide at the front and not let anyone go around. A big beautiful Wall.

A controlled 3:29.5-3:31 race is best for them in my estimation. Tim has always thrived in those sort of races, and Oslo showed his last 50 gear is on point right now. Komen has that part of the race as well, and would try to make his move at 200 to go. Reynold would be the question mark, but he has run so many 3:31s/3:48s with good closes that it's kinda hard to believe he can't summon a good kick with a peak here.

So if they front control a 3:29-3:31 race, would that not just give Jakob and Kerr a huge advantage the last half/quarter of the race? If Jakob can run low 40’s in his 3:26 race, I’d imagine he’d have a ton an energy left over in a 3:29 race with his current form. Same with Kerr, who is probably hoping it is closer to 3:29/3:30 than it is to 3:27.

Regardless what happens, if they were to employee any kind of tactics, this could throw a wrench in any of the finalists plans. I cannot wait!
