Mustafa Mohamed broke Kevin Castille's 29:44.38 (2017), with a 29:39.43. Solid.
Mohamed specialized in the 3000m steeplechase. He finised 13th in Athens 2004, 10th in Beijing 2008, 10th in Helsinki 2005, 4th in Osaka 2007, 14th in Berlin 2009, and 4th in Gothenburg 2006. His PBs are: 8:05.75 (2007), 13:32.08 (2007), 28:38.05 (2020), 28:12 (2008) 1:02:40 (2012), and 2:10:03 (2020)
Way faster than I could have dreamed of doing at any age, but in some ways I'm surprised no elite 10000 guy ran faster at 45+. Guessing someone like Bekele would have the ability to take this down in a few years, but probably no motivation for him to do a track 10000 at this point.
Wouldn't surprise me if Gebrselassie could've gone faster at age 45.
He holds the record in the M35+ class with an amazing 26:51.20. It's a shame he ran his last 10000m at age 39 (27:20.39), because he could've crushed the M40+ record. He could definitely have gone sub 27:30 at age 40. The record at the time was 28:30.88 by Martti Vainio, and later Lagat did 27:49.35 at age 41.
