Devastating. He realistically wasn't going to challenge for a medal in the 800m but just hard to see with how much he has had to get through to qualify and now it all gets thrown away at the last moment.
This thread is reminding me what a toxic zoo this place can be. Think I'll stay away from here once the athletics starts, however tempted I am to see what people are saying.
Terrible bad luck for Jake. Hopefully he can come back strong next year. Does seem like UK milers are cursed at the moment.
Gutted for him. And Giles is in - he’ll probably knock a few more people over…
Your response to Wightman's misfortune is to slag off Giles?
Divvy.
I wouldn’t say I was ‘slagging him off’. In his last couple of races - he took down Kerr and then Gourlay and Mills. All very close to the Olympics. They could have been seriously injured and out. Gourlay and Mills didn’t get to race the mile where they were in good contention to win it. It was part of their build up to the Olympics.
Once - you could say it was unfortunate but the second time was a similar incident- he just drifts without looking where he’s going. Are we not allowed to discuss this?
It’s relevant as he is Jake’s replacement
Anyway. I hope he does well - he’s quite inconsistent in big tournaments (am I allowed to say that it or is that slagging him off too?).
Very gutted for Jake. I think he was in a lose/lose situation. Needed to get back in to shape and race fit after injury with a time deadline. It’s just such a fine line.

Giles the one man wrecking ball is in as a replacement. There may be trouble...
In the lead-up to trials we were all pretty psyched Giles ran some miles and some more he biked Josh was pre-cut and running with a gut Jake was at the doctor's, lying on his butt Josh went down, and Giles went down London three weeks later... A-tishoo! A-tishoo! We all fall down! Mills was really mad, and Gourley really sad Laros laughed it off, that boy is pretty bad Not bad meaning bad, but bad meaning good LetsRun Podcast listener, Peter Piper of the hood
Le troisième acte, le Stade de France The boys are all peaked, ready to dance Josh looked relaxed, did Yared look maxed? LetsRun trolls speculate on who's vaxed Mario wasn't super, Ollie dropped a pooper Hocker strolled home, Laros still a trooper Mills ran fermented, McSweyn ran demented Potato Tim confirmed that the spuds have been tended
Hobbs just ran so free, he's for real baby And as for Giles? Ha-ha! You'll see... Slam a body down and wind it all around Slam a body down and zig-a-zig, ah
