On August 8, 2023, Paul Ruston (coach at Thomas Jefferson High School in Auburn, WA) passed away due to a brief battle with ileum cancer. Last summer when he received his prognosis, Coach Ruston created The Ruston Family Foundation. The foundation's purpose is to promote high school cross-country in Washington state. All proceeds from his estate will be used to enhance various cross-country meets around the state and provide grants to high school XC teams, athletes, and coaches.
On August 10, 2024, the foundation will be hosting the Paul Ruston Memorial Run. This event will promote the foundation's activities by demonstrating the enhanced meet experience (with announcing, music, high quality awards, and more), and raise funds for the foundation’s other activities. To incentivize fast runners to partake in this event, prize money will be awarded to the top-3 overall male & female finishers.
