Likely got paid more than they'd otherwise make in their 'pro' basketball career to switch nationalities so can't really blame them for being a free agent in that regard.

They probably have husbands who live there, so they left The USA to be with their Men and got Azerbejan Citizenship and decided to try and make it to the Olympics for a smaller Country where it is easier to make the Team, Tiffany Hayes who scored the Winning Basket played for Connecticut in College.

This is the problem. The best 3x3 players are the best 5x5 players. The best American players compete in the NBA. Not at the community center or playground. NBA Athletes were left home. Why couldn't our b-team players be chosen for 3x3?
This is an argument to bring back cross country in the Olympics.
