He’s run 7:45 for 3000. Wilde ran 13:23 as well this year
13.23 is superb for a triathlete training for triathlon. FWIW I thought his 7.02 split at 2.5k today was likely to bite him back later and in the last 1500m Yee put 18 sec into him, combo of Yee speeding up and Wilde slowing down. Classic race to watch.
Like…right now, or if he trained specifically for the marathon for a cycle?
Why do letsrunners always demand additional detail? The guy posted what he wanted to post. How difficult is it for you to give 2 times? One for right now and one after a cycle?
right now he is probably good for 2:12-2:15. His aerobic conditioning is elite, but he likely would not approach his theoretical best due to a lack of running specific training.
if he trained for a year or two only focusing on the marathon, and picked a fast marathon like berlin a time between 2:08-2:12 wouldn’t shock me. Realistically I think his theoretical best would be around 2:10. It also would depend on how his body would handle the physical toll from the high volume of running he would have to do.
I would think could run 2:13-2:14 at this moment without any specific training. ITU triathletes typically run 50-75 miles per week, but it is usually either high intensity 5k/10k pace or very slow. These guys are not doing 20 milers at 5:40 pace every weekend. The muscular demands of the marathon would likely result in him slowing down on the back half. If you gave him a 15 week build at 100 miles per week and dropped the cycling and swimming, I bet he could run a 2:10-2:11.
No! Gwen Jorgensen showed you cannot and should not extrapolate from Olympic triathlon to the marathon just because it is near a two hour event. For Yee, it may be fun to think about what he could do in a half, moving up from his 10K training and huge endurance base, but even with his running background, a marathon would be pretty pedestrian for him.

Race was awesome (mainly their run battle- actual course was boring & didn't allow strong bikers to impact the race). I think someone like Yee could run sub-2:10 if he trained for it. Wilde ran 13:23 on the track & Yee has gone 7:45. Would maybe have to de-train the swim/bike muscle mass a little, although he still looks pretty small. He has a ton of endurance. Would be able to run a good marathon. We've never seen him in long course. Dk his plans moving forward. Wilde is doing 70.3 Worlds in December.
