Sean Carlson Cuts HALF of the Colorado Roster

He left Tennessee in shambles, wonder if he’s going to take his whole class to Boulder

Seems like the perfect way to build a team.

Tough move for the guys cut, but Carlson only one of the guys on this list was on the team at xc nationals last year and all of them were running walk on times at best. D1 sports are cutthroat and about to get worse.

Without a link though, it could be that he's stated any walk on will have to try out again and are not guaranteed a roster spot. As all of these guy are undergrads, it impacts Carlson's future just as much as it does these kids since he needs to get the team size down after this next year and is probably planning on bringing some grad transfers in with him. Like any employer, he doesn't want to carry dead weight, and I'm not sure anyone who was cut could qualify for D3 nationals individually. Carlson is expected to have a top 10 team this fall and win titles in the future.

Does it ever get tiring constantly defending Carlson on every single thread on here? You know he won’t find out if you sit one out, right?

From 9th to 10th grade he went from midpack JV and not doing track to #1 on the team and making the XC state meet as an individual.

Senior year he started his season late due to an injury and ended up getting top 5 at the state meet

Isn't the goal of a business to produce revenue? Don't think track does. They have one year to get the roster to where they want. He got rid of some very young West Prelim qualifying guys. Some of the guys he cut were better than what he had at UT. Has he changed his philosophy since Notre Dame? Maybe he doesn't believe he can develop anymore--deep down inside. Yes, the sport is about recruiting, but at some point everyone has really good guys and that is when you gotta build them up.

The measuring stick will be who is on the roster Sept 1 2024 and 2025, and what place they finish at big12 and nats.

We worry about the future of cross country in the changing world of college athletics. At the DI level we need to change the 'run club' mentality. Give it a couple of years.

As a colorado HS coach, Carlson can burn in hell. Absolutely disgraceful that he would immediately cut a ton of homegrown talent. CU's AD is a POS who does not care about the state first prime and now this hire. CU board of Regents needs to step and tell them enough is enough.
