Great news for Andy! And WELL DONE to Brett for making the call, as heart breaking as it must have been for him. A proper gentleman.

Heartbreaking for Robbo. But well done on putting your hand up and giving a fitter person a chance to run at their first Olympics. Full respect for Robbo.

Note they've got Andy on the cr@p pod. So the conversation may have been "Hi I'm injured, you have my spot and also come on our podcast".

I disagree that it’s been toxic. Brett created a platform that was based around him bend open and transparent and sharing his training. He then went dark in the lead up to the biggest marathon in the world. It doesn’t take a genius to connect the dots there.

I imagine this would’ve been incredibly difficult but if your whole world is based around social media, and you then elect to stop sharing at a time where your platform has the biggest reach, then you reap what you sow. Wishing Andy the best - he hasn’t had the benefit of an altitude camp or a heat acclimation but he’ll give it a red hot crack.

So, in other words. Brett provides people with some light entertainment. Then, because he's going through a difficult time, and wants a break from constantly thinking about his injury, he eases up on providing people with light entertainment.

People are then absolutely justified in dragging him through the mud in any way they see fit.

Good on Brett for giving up his spot and unfortunate about the injury. Brett is still our best male marathon runner we have and he will have plenty of shots going forward.

It's an interesting point.

But he's also monetising his training- the carrot for the listeners and sponsors is the honesty of the elite runner. And it's the dishonesty that was a bad look. If he'd come on and said he had a serious injury and he was working as hard as he could to make it, but didn't want to give all the weekly details it would have been better. The pretence and attitude that everyone needed to F off was odd. I'd bet money that the Aths Aust press release is a wholesome sanitised version of events.

Putting yourself forward as a media person opens you up to criticism. Brett himself on the pod slags off runfluencers, Ed Goddard, IRP fellas. You can say that's light entertainment. It's also lightly entertaining to speculate here on the forum.

Not currently the best marathon racer but certainly he has the fastest time. I'm glad common sense prevailed selection wise. I wish our latest olympian all the best.

What does Brett say about Ed Goddard, someone I know that knows Ed likes to talk sh$t about Brett, so he must’ve said something.

There was a few episodes a while ago where they'd both (B+J) hang s%#t on Ed's clothes, music, basically calling him a joke. Someone called them out as bullies on their IG so they stopped.
