You know it's not common for the East Africans to use AC as many don't have it in their homes?

I thought this was pretty common knowledge. Even addressed on CoffeeClub by Geordie who talks about rooming with Hagos in Monaco and how Hagos intentionally kept the ac off - even turning it off when Geordie would turn it on low.

Didn't seem to disadvantage Hagos much as he went on to run 12:42, winning the 5k.

I was also pretty surprised when I looked at the average lows in Paris right now and it’s in the 60 degree range. Doubt the East Africans would have any trouble sleeping in that with the cooling scheme they have in place especially if they like Hagos aren’t used to AC. Unless there’s a heat wave this seems like a nonfactor. I was thinking it was like in NYC where nightly lows are 70-72.

Yea robert is getting his panties twisted talking about teams complaining and bringing ac. Then he implies unfair advantages for teams with AC when, in reality, if the dorms work as advertised then it'll be a non factor.

It's fine now but the long range weather forecast has really turned for the worse in recent days, especially for the first 4 days of track and field. In particular, the opening Sunday looks brutal.

It depends which model you check, of course. But after looking at several of them the consensus seems to be very warm early next week, then cooling off until Friday, before really surging to Sunday and only dipping a bit on Monday.

However, then it changes again and is expected to be cool on the night of the men's 1500 final on August 6.

Two weeks ago the forecast was for great weather throughout the Olympics. Somehow I knew that wouldn't hold up. Every time I've been in Paris during summer it's been unbearably hot.

It's glaringly obvious, but those who are better heat acclimatized have a better chance at succeeding when the conditions are warm/hot in the long distances. Live warm high / train cool low.

Nightly lows in NY have been a lot higher than that lately. Brutal.

Maybe Valby needs to stay acclimated, and ditch the AC.

It does matter. I remember a Cheptegei interview saying he didn’t feel as good for the 10k due to not using AC in Tokyo but turned it on before the 5k

Places like Addis Ababa and Eldoret Kenya are significantly cooler than Paris in the summertime, even at the hottest times of year (February and March in Eldoret, March through May in Addis). Same highs in the mid-upper 70s, but in the African highlands it gets down to about 50 at night. It could be a problem for some if nighttime temperatures remain high.

Most Kenyans runners wear full winter warmups when it is 70. I would think that ac would be too cold for them.
