The article claims she's going to Paris as an alternate. Is that even true? Does the Olympics/USATF send the alternate to the Olympics? I would think not as the alternates would either a) be in a pissed off mood and bring everyone else's mood down or b) be drinking and partying so much that the Village would be too wild.
No, they don't send alternates. I saw this too, and originally I thought, maybe one of the top 3 is injured (without it being publicly disclosed yet), and they know she likely is going to the Olympics. But that doesn't seem to be the case. Your theory that they taped this pre-Trials is probably true -- they don't want to waste the work and money they put in, and figure they can get away with this because she's at least an alternate.

WBAL here in Baltimore published an article on relay pool member Isabella Whittaker. The article doesn't even mention that her sister Juliette is going to the Olympics in the 800. It clearly was an article written with zero effort. They didn't interview anyone and it was something Chat GPT could do - just regurgitate facts listed elsewhere but somehow they failed the fact about her sister.
It's not quite the blunder that Dan & Dave became though.
