Apologies if I missed a thread on this already. Assuming his world athletics profile isn't missing any notable race results, Cheminingwa had a personal best of 1:46.20 after the 2023 season. He's 26 years old according to his profile and all of a sudden, over the course of a few months, he goes from 1:46.20 to 1:44.24 to 1:44.10 to 1:43.55 to a 1:42.08 in Paris just a few days ago? And backs it up with a 1:42.13 in Monaco. And after finishing 5th in the Kenyan Olympics Trials and presumably not going to the Olympics, he's now the 11th fastest all time.
Of all the bizarre recent emergences we've seen in the 800m over the past few weeks, this one strikes me as the most odd. He doesn't have many results on his World Athletics profile, with a few "middling" (by pro standards) results in the past few years before a full season in 2023, chock full of 1:47s and 1:48s. While Sedjati and Tual's performances are very suspect as well, at least they've been relevant for a few years now and have run 1:43 or 1:44 in the past (don't get me started on Attaoui). Anyway, the fact that Cheminingwa is "breaking out" just now at the age of 26 is quite interesting to say the least. Is this just the icing on the cake as the most unbelievable of all of these recent performances?
