After what looked like the most doped-up Diamond League event I’ve ever seen, I’m finally at the point where I think there must be a new PED that is being widely used. It’s clearly something that is helping with pain tolerance / lactate resistance. Anybody have any insight as to what it might be? Surely it has filtered to the college ranks by now and some of you must know what this is. Any thoughts?

I’d think Morphine would actually slow you down, and don’t think that pain is the limiting factor in performance.
I think the OP is on to something regarding neutralization of lactate.

I know Jakob takes this and I’ve seen many of the European long sprinters do as well (Bol, Klaver, Kaczmerak), but it is actually 100% legal. Does it really have that much of a positive impact? I know Nuguse said he tried it and it literally made him crap his shorts during a workout.

I agree about shoes and tracks. It is worth noting that the Paris track is the fastest track ever made. However doping did not die. I could name 100s of athletes that have been banned but since I do not feel like it here you go:

Seemingly no pain, no distress, no discomfort.
Whatever some of these athletes are taking, it is completely removing lactic and the pain cave. So races are now just a test of biomechanics.

Interesting. That's a trick thoroughbread trainers have used in the past. And it does work. That said, if a trainer is caught doing that they are banned from training for a period of time.

Wouldn't doubt there's a new PED but times across the boards in every track event indicates 1 thing:
Technology.
Tracks with better return + Shoe technology that keeps improving. And the shoes keep getting even lighter, bouncier, and faster. Curious to see what times will be like in 2 or 3 years.

Tracks with better return + Shoe technology that keeps improving. And the shoes keep getting even lighter, bouncier, and faster. Curious to see what times will be like in 2 or 3 years.
The thing is, the sprinters 100-200-400 aren’t running any faster despite what is purported to be better technology. This is clearly something that helps from 800 to 5,000. I would have said the double threshold training made a breakthrough (and I think it did) as the 800 was lagging behind too, but now with these amazing 800 times being popped, it must be something with lactate clearance or tolerance.

We already saw the bump from the shoes. This is something different, and it’s something that is not happening equally for all, which usually indicates doping.

Biggest question is testicular shrinkage for men -- WADA and USADA test for "keep the balls on" drugs. Is there a new sperm pump drug, or should drug testers be measuring testicle circumference?

How about better training. We have much larger knowledge and much better resources compared to 30 and 20 years ago. Runners do not have to make mistakes in their training anymore.
