ANYONE KNOW?
ANYONE KNOW?
steve scott something like 137 incredible
has RUN. not "RAN". "RUN"
(and the answer is, in fact, Steve Scott)
Eamonn Coughlan is up there.....Dont know exact #'s
Remember that many people run under 4 minutes in practice. Steve Scott has the record for official one mile races under 4 minutes but I would bet that he ran some in practice. Then think about El Guerrouj, Gebreselassie, Bekele, Komen, etc. who are/were good enough to run mile repeats well under 4.
Wasn't John Walker the first to 100? Marcus O'Sullivan probably has more than a couple.

Wonder if Sir Roger Bannister thinks they're all juiced. In fact, he's probably a regular on here.

YES.
Steve Scott talks about it in his book, i'm confidant he has the WR for most miles under 4 min. if i had hte book here, i'd try to find something about it, but my friend is borrowing it. sorry.
Steve Scott with 136 (last one at 93 Sunkist indoor meet). John Walker was first to 100 sub-four miles. This does not count 1500 equivalents or sub-four miles in practice.
And I suppose Komen can get a double hit for his sub-8:00 2 mile !

no, because his seond mile was not sub-4
When Komen ran 7:58 the first time, his splits were 3:59.2 and 3:59.4.

At any rate, the question is a ridiculous one. The 4-minute mile is not something for which it is worth keeping world records; does anyone really care about how many sub-3:24 1500s El Guerrouj ran? What about the most times under 28:12 for 10k?

He never beat 4 minutes.
Eamonn Coghlan, on the other hand, has 78.
Most Prolific Sub-4 Exponents

John Walker (127)
Marcus O'Sullivan 100)
Ray Flynn (89)
Eamonn Coghlan (78)

Would El G ever even run that in practice though? That's like 2 mile race pace for him. What's the point of doing repeat miles at 2 mile race pace?
I don't think people really do that.
Ireland has more sub 4 miles than you neener neener neener
uh maybe but I doubt it. Repeat miles in under four minutes? I don't know the training sceme of El G but I doubt that he does it that often. even if he does they may be repeat 15's or 16's since it is on a track.
Steve Scott ran lots of mile races. El G probably has not even raced 137 mile races. but it is amazing to think that there are people who could run under 4 outside of race conditions.

Good enough to run mile repeats well under 4!?!?
