Championship Tier:
1A. Josh Kerr (GBR -1) - Very little racing, but it's all been good
1B. Jakob (NOR- 1) - Tour de Force double in European Champs
The Next Guys:
3. Yared Nuguse (USA - 3) - Trials will be a good test to see if he's well-clear of Hocker and others or closer to them than the top 2 in an unpaced race
4. Tim Cheruiyot (KEN -6) - Perhaps I'm wrong, but I am unconcerned about 3rd at Kenyan Champs as I think he let Reynold win, a year after the youngster did that for him. A lot of looking around the last 50 and little kicking
Dark Horses:
5. Jake Wightman (GBR -4) - Not a convincing performance at NYC Grand Prix, but gets the win. Concern is after coming out of training his first race or two have been his best and the performances somewhat taper off.
6. Reynold Cheruiyot (KEN -10) - Good win at Kenyan Trials, though I'd like to see him protect his position a little better in these races
7. Cole Hocker (USA -7) - Nice 800m PB for him again
What Was That?
8. Neil Gourley (GBR -8) - European Final was pretty bad and there should be legit concern about withstanding the rounds on such little training
9. Brian Komen (KEN -5) - Just did about everything wrong tactically at Kenyan Trials, but does have a sliver of a chance if Munguti doesn't hit the qualifying time
10. Isaac Nader (POR-10)- I'll give the benefit of the doubt that he fell in his prelim and then ran all-out for an auto spot. That could've burned his finish at Euros.
11. Azeddine Habz (FRA -9) - I'm less forgiving of the explanation that the drama around getting in the meet fully explains his performance
Positive Momentum/Trust The Resume
12. George Mills (GBR -16)- Very strong performance in the European Champs 5000m
13. Olli Hoare (AUS -13)
14. Hobbs Kessler (USA -15) I thought NYC Grand Prix was OK, and more just a really solid race from Holt with Kessler fine-tuning things a bit
15. Elliott Giles (GBR -12) - Not great at European Champs, but has been consistent in the 1500
Raising Some Eyebrows
16. Daniel Munguti (KEN -NR) - Considering his storming legs at World XC, maybe it was a matter of time but an impressive run at Kenyan Trials, and now we'll see if he's selected by Kenya
17. Abdisa Fayisa (ETH - NR) - Huge PB at Ethiopian Trials, but the kick/composure passed the eye test most of all
18. Eric Holt (USA - NR) - What a monster run in NYC, but can he do that in a USA Finals with rounds and more traffic?
19. Cooper Teare (USA -17) - Gets the win in Portland, but tactically a lot left to be desired...feels like 5K is surer bet for him
Good/Decent Runs at European Champs/NCAAs:
20. Jochem Vermuelen (BEL -NR)
21. Pietro Arese (ITA -19)
22. Joe Waskom (USA -NR) - Gotta give him credit for doing it again, fearsome championship competitor
23. Adam Spencer (AUS- 14) - I was a little disappointed in his performance at NCAAs, but overall he's been pretty strong all season
24. Ruben Verheyden (BEL -HM)
Final Tier:
25. Mael Gouyette (FRA -NR) - Crushed Myers with an impressive kick, quite a breakthrough season after OK Iona career
26. Robert Farken (GER -20)
27. Samuel Tefera (ETH -NR) - Looked lively in the 1500 at Ethiopian Trials, but doesn't look like a guy who will be a factor in Paris
28. Narve Nordas (NOR -18) - Not sure what is up with Nordas, but obviously Europeans was his worst competition since his emergence last year
29. Cameron Myers (AUS -21)
30. Adel Mechaal (ESP - NR) - Good meet at European Champs though no medals
HM: Elliott Cook, Colin Sahlman, Andrew Coscoran, Stewart McSweyn ,Mario Garcia-Romo
