I think he's saying that a windy 8:31 with a 4:06 second mile in a high school only race with no pacers is an intrinsically more difficult accomplishment than an 8:29.46 with professional pacers and runners.

Okay. Is not Zealand’s performance the record? What is the confirmation behind Bryne Brown’s time trial, besides maybe(?) a video (and videos can be doctored)?

Yes, that’s what I’m saying. Running 5:10 for the last 2k, leading the last 3 laps, makes it more impressive than Verzbicas’s 8:29 based on splits/competition. If you want to bring up the super-shoe component, sure, it complicates the comparison. And of course there’s always Gerry Lindgren’s 8:40 on a crappy undersized indoor track in 1964 to think about.
Won’t there be an enroute 3200m check on Zealand’s two mile race? That mark should eclipse all of the current 3200m times on the Wikipedia all-time list page.
Why are you neglecting the 8:29.46 by Lukas Verzbicas?
This. Griffith’s run is equivalent to an 8:37 without the ability to train and race in super shoes. Still a great run, but not at the level of Verzbicas.

I meant 8:39. Griffith’s run is worth 8:39 in regular shoes. That makes Verzbicas 10 seconds faster.
I agree. Leachman is also slated to run the Nike Outdoor 2 mile on Friday night and the Nike Outdoor 1 mile on Saturday afternoon. Too much for a 16 year old girl; hopefully she isn't actually running both those events. Imagine if she also finished the PTF 5k on this past Sunday night...
