She probably gave a 5/10 effort at NCAA. There was no feeling of fatigue or pain after the finish; she hugged others, jumping up and down while others collapsing. she spoke fluently in the interview. I believe if she wants it, she can easily break 14:30. She would be our rising star against Ethiopians and Kenyans.

She was maxed out racing the threshold line. Only maybe could she have gone a second faster in those conditions (i.e., warm temps, and racing a 10000m two days earlier) if she had run the first lap a second faster.

Think about it; if she signs with N ike, she would be just another athlete with, ahem, Nikee, but she could potentially move the needle in a big way with those others.

I think she can make the team. She has not been pushed once this year. We still don't know how much faster she can go with better competition. I wish she cleared the Olympic standard today so she only has to worry about making top 3.

The thought of pros having to sit on a college runner is crazy. Valby is also the first runner I heard of also with reverse pacers to slow her down.

Why in the world would you think it is “the other way around”? Valby has not yet demonstrated superior speed than Cranny or Schweizer, so ESP, Cranny and Schweizer will likely sit on her and kick her down in the last 400m.
Right, now Valby, Schweizer, and Cranny are pretty evenly matched over the 5000m distance, with Valby maybe even having a slight edge (particularly in hot and humid conditions) but I don’t think that is the case (onlybased upon what we have seen so far) if Valby has to do all of the work out front for most of the race.
However, in a paced race with pace lights and/or with faster athletes in a global race (in which Valby is not the rabbit), Valby quite possibly would come out ahead of Cranny and Schweizer. But that is not the situation at the Trials.

Based upon what we have seen so far, I agree this is the most likely outcome. Such a race would then eat into what Valby could have maximally produced in a 10000m race if she had only raced just the 10000m at the Trials.
