Rewatched 2016 and 2020 recently in preparation for this year's Olympics.
What surprises me is the absolute swathes of DNFs.
I totally get that in ANY other big city marathon it's best to DNF if having a bad day as there's always another one the same year and it would be pointless.
But it fair to say many, probably most, people only run one Olly marathon, so finishing would be so important.
Obviously if you're injured and started when you normally wouldn't, of have some Do Nasciemento collapse then it makes sense to DNF.
But if you always ran 2:10 and couldn't cope with the humidity it would be better to jog the second half and finish in 2:30.
Yes I do know what's it's like to hit the wall in a marathon, it happened once and I had to walk but they're better conditioned.
Surely if it's once in a lifetime you'd just jog in? Still counts as an Olympic marathon.
