Could one week of sick days mess up my base phase

No, it won't. As long as you continue training, and act like the sickness never happened. Last winter (during winter base phase) I came down with a terrible flu that took me out for 5 straight days, then took another 5 just to feel normal. 10 weeks later I broke 16 in the 5k first try in a big breakthrough.

Don't try to make up anything. Either pick up where you left off or continue like you were training the past week.

Track season is barely over. You're sick. Don't hurry back to training. Just take it gradually. Easy runs for a few days, then moderate when it feels okay, then back to regular running when you feel ready. The point is to get back to base training when you're ready, not force yourself to follow some fixed schedule, ready or not.

It's the first week of June. You'll be fine.

Do what this guy says if you are a 50 year old hobby jogger. You're not coming back from injury, you're coming back from a cold. Get out there and run. You might have two days that feel like garbage but you'll be fine after and better off.

everybody gets sick. so with that in mind, the best time to be sick is during a base phase.

Embrace it, sickness is poor mans altitude.

limited to no real effect.,don't try to make anything up just adjust and flow back into it. As someone that's been racing competitively for 20 years, you'll pick up just fine when you are preparing and healthy

It could actually help you. Sometimes a down week is a blessing. Even if you slow jog 4 days of a week amd no workouts, that may be something your body secretly benefits from.

if your training is 80% of what you want, that is perfect in an imperfect world.

if you focus on needing everything to be perfect, to win, this is a losing attitude.

and pushing the envelope will get you injured, or burned out.

80% is the aim, not 100%

it's a myth, the perfection, a guy like Michael Jordan, the truth is he would go gambling and golfing, and maybe back off in the finals with off court activities.

not recommending Jordan as a model what so ever.

the point is that things need to go well overall, but not perfect.

like your diet, 80% of the right food is fine. if you have cravings.

hitting 80% is the way to go.

of course if there are no set backs and you have a perfect run and get to 95%, bonus.

but the supreme effort requires recovery after, else you go down the path of Ryun, and everyone else who inevitably collapsed coe ovett snell ryun the entire oregon squads over decades, etc.

Most high school runners are too lazy to train consistently over the summer. You'll still be in the top 5% when it comes to summer fitness. And ya, everyone gets sick. It's only a problem if it happens close to a major race.

my mileage buildup is getting kind of derailed and I should be at 38-40 this week (going to probably hit 28-33ish) but like everyone is saying its very early and I have all the summer,

I hope if everything can go pretty well that 12 weeks (summer) will be enough to lay the foundation to drop at least a minute off of my 5k from last season

Well I’ve trained 1 week out of the last 4 due to annoying colds. Kinda frustrating but when I’ve gone back to training I’ve gotten sick again after about 3 to 4 days. Better to just try and fully recover than drag it out. Although I did feel fully recovered when I went back to training
