Eugene is an out of the way college town, with few accommodations, etc. If you could move/build a similar venue in a different location, where are you putting it? Somewhere at sea level, easily accessible, plenty of accommodation, and people that care about the sport.
If it had to be a city on the West Coast, I would probably pick Portland OR. Easy access to fly in with PDX nearby and the climate is ideal, as seen with races like the Portland track festival or Portland Twilight. Also, plenty of hotels for lodging and forest trails to train in during race week. Looking at the midwest, I would say a lot of the midwest is not ideal due to factors like desert climate, rural landscape or high elevation. Further East, maybe Chicago or St Louis could be good locations. You could argue a place like Atlanta GA could also work but due to the high temperatures and humidity, I would probably avoid any city S of Tennessee. I also think the north east is very congested so probably wouldn't be that fun navigating to the track in that region but not impossible. Just my two cents.

San Diego, hands down. Ideal weather, plenty of hotels and transport, great sightseeing options during down time.

Los Angeles needs to become the hub of American track and field leading up to the 2028 Olympics. We have a huge opportunity to grow the sport in the US in the coming years, but if wee keep all the big races in Eugene we will likely squander that opportunity like we did the last one (2022 world's in Eugene, remember all those empty seats).
Dropping it into Lake Michigan. It is plenty deep enough that the stupid looking tower will be submerged. It will make for a nice artificial reef for fish.

Probably somewhere in San Francisco, or maybe Stanford or Berkeley. Northern California has the most active competitive club running scene on the West Coast.
Put it in Washington DC at the RFK Stadium spot/land.
A lot of parking, including for tailgating. Easy Metro access. 3 "Major"Airports near by (DCA/BWI/Dulles). Plenty of hotels in/around the DC area. Plenty to do and see. Plenty of good running routes in/around. Massive amount of population within 4-5 hour drive/train

I would say Minneapolis. They are ranked pretty well in terms of how many runners they have really only behind a lot of cali cities and some cities at altitude. It is pretty centrally located so its not like people from New York have to adjust to Eugene time zones. I've been there and it is a really beautiful city and the trails are just wonderful and you are not likely to be hit by a car there. Downsides are it can get pretty cold(-30 one year I think). I am from the Midwest so I do fine but for people from down south you guys would die.
This isn't an insane idea, think of the popularity of the College World Series there. A central location that becomes known for an event is more sustainable than something historical about the location to begin with. We all love Pre, but at this point, how much is his image worth to getting people in the stands in OR? Another not obvious but somewhat central location would be Fayetteville.

I kind of agree in theory here. But using Drake as an example who made a huge push to rival Eugene in the early 2010’s and had it fail spectacularly gives me pause. Drake Relays are now a shell of themselves unfortunately. I don’t think the Midwest has the interest level to be viable.
Phil Knight should have bought the Portland Meadows race track location, torn down the race track and built the stadium there. It's 5 minutes from the airport and a billionaire could easily buy up a ton of land around it and build hotels, restaurants, etc.
Eugene blows (awful restaurants, very little to do, expensive as hell, hard to get to) and the diehard T&F fans that kept Eugene at the center of the American T&F universe are all dying out.

Yea, and you can go to the Floyd autonomous zone and worship at the shrine, just don't bring the police they aren't welcome there.

Seattle metro area with about a 45 minute drive max from Sea-Tac airport. In an ideal world, I'd put it within a half mile of any Sound Transit light rail stop, but that's not happening.

Seattle metro area with about a 45 minute drive max from Sea-Tac airport. In an ideal world, I'd put it within a half mile of any Sound Transit light rail stop, but that's not happening.
Not seattle. The weather is awful until mid July. Chicago, San Diego, Nor Cal Bay Area would be great.
