New rule just passed in Utah saying athletes can transfer without reason and are only penalized with a half season ban. Meaning athletes can transfer and still race by Woodbridge!! Cooper tripp (skyridge 14th at 6a state) and Jackson Spencer (Syracuse 4:15 @ 4500 feet) are both transferring for the upcoming season. NXN is pre determined for the next few years...

Honestly sad; this will take away from the integrity of highschool cross country for years to come. Can’t blame the coach for taking advantage of the system but that doesn’t mean the system isn’t broken
This is good for the sport. I'm stuck in a school district where the fastest boy is 19:00 5k and fastest girl is 26:00 5k.
I wish I could drive 30-45 minutes to a district that actually cares about the sport.
If your team's fastest runner is 19:00 that means you're slower than that and you should just focus on doing what you can to get better there. You don't have a right to complain about being on a terrible team unless you're sub 17 for a guy or sub 20:30 for a girl because that's at a minimum how fast you need to be to score for a really good team.

I agree the rule isn't good, but their coach isn't out recruiting people. Guys are choosing to transfer there by themselves. Who wouldn't at least consider transferring to win nxn when your own team isn't doing much?

I don't think so. I get that you lose something when Utah schools are winning because kids can choose their coaches, but don't forget that we gain something too: Kids will get better coaching and be surrounded by better athletes. I'd rather every state move to this option than Utah go back on it. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Herriman and American Fork are going to make NP's 2022/23 times a regular occurrence in the next few years. The talent has always been there, it just normally doesn't get good enough coaching.
I meant kids will be moving to American Fork that may not have otherwise. AF has a history of being the best, they held the 4xmile record before NP did.

Probably the reason why Niwot had 4 varsity girls transfer in last year (1 of them was sitting out due to injury and will be a senior this fall). Niwot has another varsity girl transferring in from IMG academy this fall
So the top 6 for Herriman will be (no particular order) Ogomo (NXN scorer) Tang 1 (NXN scorer) Tang 2 (NXN scorer) Manwaring (transferred in before fall 2023. 186 speed rating at RunningLane.) Spencer (new transfer) Tripp (new transfer) 7th spot will be either B Runnells or M Steadman (both sub-10 during track)

With a the improvement these athletes have already shown, it wouldn't surprise me to see Herriman go something like 25-30-35-50-70-100-105, scoring 60-70

And if you want talk times....My son ran a 4:10 1500m with a 59 last lap at age 14 a couple years ago. My daughter just ran a 19:06 5k this weekend at age 14. So yes, my kids are good enough to be on a really good team.

American Fork could make podium again even though they only return 1 guy from NXN.
Returners: Evans - 4:09 & 8:44 - Jr Plewe - 4:13 & 9:24 - So Bement - 4:19 & 9:43 - Jr Williams - 4:27 & 9:31 - Jr Moore - 4:29 & 9:19 - Jr Harrington - 4:30 & 9:21 - So Ward - 4:47 & 9:50 - So Pretty solid top 7.
San Clemente wouldn’t make NXN even if Harrington was still there.

hmm this only applies for the top guys. is high school sports really only supposed to about the top 7 runners? That's gross to me. If every year, the seven best just transfer in than the program is a failure.
