I would have expected him to recognize this so was surprising to hear his response and how he mentally groups the Diamond League and championship-style races into the same bucket.

He was sick in Budapest and ran stupidly in Eugene. There is no difference. He has also gotten silver at each of these, not dead last. Stop pretending like he sucks at championship races, he doesn’t. His approach works majority of the time when he’s 100%.

The "majority of the time" occurs less often now.

Like Jakob, you fans never stop coming up with bs excuses for when he is beaten. He must have been "sick" or "injured", or his "preparation not 100%" - anything but that he was beaten by a better runner on the day.

He increasingly reminds me of Joliet Jake in "The Blues Brothers" trying to explain to his girlfriend why he didn't turn up for their wedding. "My house caught fire, there was a terrible flood ..."

I want to add though, its obvious there is a downside to leading a championship race wire to wire. Which is letting the others draft off of you. Denying this is stupid and certainly added to his last two losses. But to him, if he were to win this way, it would be the best form of victory. Winning because he has the most strength. He is a little arrogant and overconfident sometimes but to him its worth it to either get the silver or the gold 🤷

That’s Jakobs best possible race strategy. He has inferior leg speed and vastly superior endurance. Wire to wire is the best way to race cause he’s not fast enough to hawk down the guys with 47 400m leg speed in the final 150m. He’s not losing because he’s racing stupid, he’s losing because he’s not the best man on the day.

I never said that Jake or Josh were not better runners on the day, they were. Remember Kerr in eugene? Do you know why he got 5th? He said he had Covid the day before the final. It was the same for him as it was for Jakob. I will give it to you though. Jakob was pretty disrespectful to wightman after Eugene, saying “we all know who the better runner is”. It clearly wasn’t him on that day, like he explained with his tactics. But, Jakob went on a tear the rest of the season. That’s why putting too much focus on the winner of the olympics or WC is kind of dumb imo. Disregards the rest of the season.

Are you agreeing or disagreeing? You said he ran stupidly in Eugene (where he led wire to wire) but seem to be disagreeing with my point about his tactic of leading wire to wire not working well

Too bad he is never healthy in any race than means something (dumb time trials are meaningless).

Kerr was the better runner yesterday. But it is a fact that Jakob missed several months of training. And to deny that would be intellectually dishonest, yet you and several other people do so simply because you dislike Jakob's personality...

Just because Jakob missed a few months of training doesn't mean he suddenly becomes a 3:25 demigod once he starts training... You are writing fanfiction. That's not how this sport works at the highest level, Neil Gourley PR'd by a huge margin and he's been out longer than Jakob. Why isn't the message board clamoring about him run 3:44 once he's able to train.

You can't call out other people's biased opinions while not acknowledging your own.

Nobody said he was a demigod lol. I think Jakob is getting more clamoring because his rivalry with kerr is such a huge topic on this board that we are glossing over neil gourley.

Interesting that Jakob immediately lashes out at the interviewer when he even gets a hint of a question that might vaguely be interpreted negatively. “Will you practice different racing styles” is a pretty tame question but clearly set him off and that mocking tone he used afterwards was childish.

Idk, I know you guys love Jakob’s confidence but to me he sometimes comes off as a spoiled rich kid who’s been told his whole life that he’s the greatest and attacks anyone who hints otherwise.

I love watching him race and generally root for him, but some of his interviews just make me cringe (which I know is an unpopular opinion around here).

Well, Rudisha front ran Oly 2012 with great success… And although I acknowledge that the 1500m is a different distance (than the 8) one should not underestimate the value of setting pace and one’s preferred rhythm. And Jakob doesn’t even talk about front running the whole way -in WC 2023 Kipsang f.ex led in nearly 500m, and who knows if somebody else even takes it out to two laps…

Jakob may be vulnerable if he has to lead from the start, and f.ex Kerr or Wightman glue to his back uncontested, and without having to struggle for the position (something alike El Guerrouj against Lagat and Ngeny). But this is normally not the case -Kerr ran wide bends in 2023, and even Wightman had to suffer stop/start pace in the field in 2022. I think neither beat Jakob because of his front running in these two champs -I think they simply were better than him the actually days… And it’s strikingly that the two times Jakob nearly were beaten in 2023 (aside of being sick) there were in fact pacers (against Nuguse and Kejelcha in Eugene)..!
