Hi guys so for my running background im 18 started 2 years ago, did 3:10 for the marathon in august 2023, and 90 minutes for the half in october, took a break from running in the xmas holidays cause felt like burnt out. I wanted to run faster on shorter distances this year (especially on the 10k)
So I did tune-up 10k 5 weeks ago did 41:50 just to see where fitness is at. And spent 5 weeks training for a sub 40 10k, which I successfully did about 5miles of volume at race pace, threshold running, 12x30s hills on some days, and 5k reps at below 6:10 permile.
Since my goal race was in 3 weeks time, this week I found a good 10k online and sign up for it since I was confident of hitting faster times like what I did in training. And it would also provide good stimulus for the race I signed up for 2 weeks after.
, For this race I did a 1 week taper dropping mileage from 50-30mpw (including the race) and did 41:35, which was still a pb although I thought I could run faster. I went out hard on the first mile at 6:10, and wanted to find a pack to run with and couldnt find one so I just pull the effort and the pace back to stay conservative. As the race went on I just went slower and slower. There was even a point in mile 4 where I was struggling to catch my breath where I slowed significantly. Any advice on how should I approach the race 2 weeks from now, and also training in the future?
