Can someone explain “White Privilege”

White privilege = You writing what you wrote.

It means your dad didn't face any barriers because of his racial background. He may have had other barriers in life, but none due to the color of his skin. The privilege is that he benefitted from not being a racial minority.

It's pretty simple really.

If the people who push this stuff didn't just call you a racist bigoted istophobe, or insist it isn't their job to educate you, they'd copy-paste this explanation: "we're not saying your life hasn't been hard, we're just saying that your race hasn't made it worse."

And then they'll go back to acting, in practice, as if every black person has it harder than every white person, and arguing for policies and practices that assume that is true.

Your family got to go to public school and eat in whatever restaurant they chose simply because they were white.

Race baiting is midwit catnip.

The better term would have been "black disadvantage" because no one doubts that blacks were horribly disadvantaged (to say the least) in the past. Flipping that around as "white privilege" changes the meaning and comes off insulting or deprecating to many white people who have enjoyed no such "privilege." The terms are not two sides of the same coin.

And today, neither term has much, if any, applicability. The "black disadvantages" of decades ago have disappeared, and being black is arguably an advantage now with respect to, e.g., employment, school admission, and assessment of culpability in many situations. If we were to look for racial disadvantage today (and for the last 30 years), it would be "Asian disadvantage" if anything.

A Nigerian family, an Albanian family, a Taiwanese family, all immigrate to the US in 2023. Does the Albanian family enjoy privilege based on their color?

As for racial minorities, whites are a racial minority in California, but don't get "credited" for being one.

Instead, where I live is called "majority minority".

So, it isn't about racial minorities at all - it is about anti-white.

It hasn't occurred to you what has driven "black disadvantage".

Good point about Asians. While they aren't outright discriminated against, in some cases, they are simply ignored/passed over for jobs.

A feature of white privilege is the inability to see it. That's because they who have it have no experience of what it is like to be lesser because of their race.

I wish we could dig up MLK or Frederick Douglas and get there opinion on today's African-American.

I think they would be absolutely disgusted by people that abandon their children at a 70% rate and idolize criminals more than intellectuals.
