I am an athlete that had to quit running years ago due to problems with injuries. I have tried to return to running this year and I've been able to race, but then after the races I am in a ton of pain and can't run until the next weekend where I rely on pain medication to make it through the races. I have really bad shin splints in a deep pain in my soleus. This pain makes it hard to walk and focus in everyday life. I've gone to my colleges athletic trainer and I spend time with recovery tools and do strengthening exercises but it doesn't stop the pain. With time it gets better but I haven't been able to do over like 3 miles a week.
I do however cross train quite hard.
In three weeks of track season following a break after my swim season I've run:
1500: 4:28.2
800: 2:09 (after the 1500)
400: 56 (end of meet)
This sport causes me so much pain but it used to be my outlet and I haven't found the same passion in swimming despite being more successful. Any recommendations are welcome, discouragement is welcome too.
