I'm in the States. Is there a way to watch Diamond League meets without the usual Paul Swangard, Ato Boldon and Trey Hardee trio? Is there a European feed that's better?
I learned from Des & Kara's podcast that the announcers aren't always in a position to actually see the track -- sometimes they have to announce off of literally the same footage we're seeing (complete with slow-mos, replays, etc.). Given the lack of commentary on anything happening behind the leaders in the distance races, I think that's what was happening here. Dumb? Totally. But not the announcers' fault.
The announcers were in America watching from a computer screen.
Somewhere David Coleman is rolling over in his grave. Those were the days, when the announcers were not only in the stadium but actually knew who all of the competitors were and could speak intelligently about what was happening in the race.
Nah. I don't know who will be on the team but my guess is Gear, Wayment, and possibly Courtney F. As much as I wish it could be for her, Ostrander is a huge long shot.
I think Coburn is no longer a lock for the Olympic team, but I wouldn't count her out either. She's got a few more races until the OT’s and taking injury out of the equation, if she can run comfortably under 9:20 in those races, she'll have a great shot. At the moment, I see Coburn, Olivia Markezich and a fight between Wayment and Gear for the third spot with Allie Ostander being a very longshot for third or at least 4th if she can stay healthy and progress. Olivia Markezich is showing great promise for a being new up and coming steeple queen. NCAA champion, 8:45 recent indoor 3k time and an upside for developing strength.
Typical bosshard. He can't coach a paperback. Took wet wetmore training and then blew it up because of his hubris and thought he knew better. Emma luckily in an event no world class ladies compete in. Team focused on lavish vacays, weddings, insta poses. Lots of tears. Nobody has a JOB. Meanwhile she pushed a kid off a track!

The US Women’s Steeple is weak right now. That DiI girl from Adams State could make the team
Let's accept the premise that Emma Coburm made physical contact with a minor at a public track.
If you're going to make this claim, please provide context.
Scenario 1:
EC was running a hard workout in Lane 1 and a poorly supervised kid darted in front of her and EC instinctively put her hands out to keep from slamming into the kid and kept on running after brushing past the kid like most focused athletes would. The kid was startled and the parents, unaware of common track etiquette requiring slow runners to stay out of Lane 1, got upset.
Scenario 2:
EC was jogging in lane 1 and noticed a kid giggling and walking in Lane 4. EC became enraged at the sound of a happy child and cursed at the child, telling the kid this was her track and the kid should scram. Three minutes later, as she started to lap the kid again, she sprinted up to the kid from behind, violently shoved the kid and screamed "Get off and stay off, squishy face." Then EC jogged off chanting, "I'm the champ, I'm the champ, I'm the champ...
I feel like some version of Scenario 1 is a lot more likely than Scenario 2.
Honestly the pushing a kid off a track isn't a big deal. I know several college athletes and older who have had run ins with middle schoolers. Not saying they were in the right but it's just not some cancelable offense. Stop clutching your pearls.

I end all of my runs by pushing a kid off the track. great for upper body strength.
So you say Coburn and Frerichs are done but actually think Ostrander is making a comeback? lol ok...
Yeah I know. Everybody is a happy adjuster, taking every recent indication to the extreme.
Meanwhile when the actual race begins, nothing has changed.
I have no idea why anybody is discounting Frerichs. Her Instagram posts have been upbeat, emphasizing she's been able to run the highest mileage in years. Her only race this year was a very good 15:01 at 5000 indoors.
Frerichs never races during early outdoor season. Coburn's problem is that she is no longer able to go with the pace at elite level. When there was a doping suspension or two in recent years, Coburn immediately took to Instagram and stuffily announced that we're going back to 9:03 level. There will be no such thing as sub-9 prelims.
It was ignorant wishful thinking. Chepkoech says I have no idea what world you're living in, I'm taking it out in 2:54.
Coburn is totally screwed because she always runs her best races from the front. At international level she won't be near the front. But at United States trials she will be.
Her comments on Chepkoech sat poorly with me at the time and they’ve aged poorly. Coburn at her best is probably an 8:35 3K runner. And she probably thinks 8:56-58 was her ultimate peak level for the Steepler. So why she thinks 8:45-8:55 screams definite doping when 8:20 is a doable time I don’t know. Elle Purrier St Pierre of course just ran 8:20, and I’ve seen no accusations from Emma. It’s an event with a history of dopers, but thereve been a lot of athletes switching nationalities (which seems to lead to a higher incidence of doping), and it’s rarely an athletes first choice event.

A much as I dislike the culture of their group...how can you say she's competing in an event with no world class ladies when she pretty much gets dropped by 100 meters in every non-USA champs steeple she runs? The top steeple women in the world nowadays are running crazy fast, some of the fastest times ever run for that matter. And Coburn is just not on that level anymore. I'd love to be proven wrong though!

Chepkoech ran a 15 second PR, practically solo, to crush a world record set by a convicted doper by 8 seconds. If that not suspicious, no athletic performance is.
Coburn's main limit was using classic hurdle technique, which may get you over the barrier smoothly like a track hurdle, but it's not a track hurdle. You don't need to get over smoothly and hold all your speed, you need to save energy.
Kenyans invented the much better hop technique. Western coaches need to finally admit this and stop holding their athletes back.
She won a world championship. I wouldn’t say she was limited at all. If winning a world championship is a sign of being “limited”, then sign me up.
