1) Why do you want to stand in the middle of the street to watch a draft? It's not like you need to see what's happening and it's not like Detroit was drafting high.
2) Where do you go to the bathroom? Get something to eat/drink?
And please no Detroit jokes. More than 200,000 people showed up to watch in Nashville a few years back.
As football is exciting as running is not as getting drunk with strangers is more fun than sitting on couch at home as people like to party.
It's crazy that a moderator would delete your post. I've restored it.
But you kind of make my point. If you want to get hammered, how do you do it in the midst of all those people? I assume they aren't selling beer in the middle - and where would you pee?
It looks like a terrible place to party - a far cry from the Preakness.
People all over the world gather in large groups to celebrate what is essentially the passage of time.
You provided the answer yourself...camaraderie....which maybe Rojo isn't comfortable with.
On New Years Eve there is camaraderie, but most of it is in small groups not large ones. In the US the busiest night of the year at bars is Thanksgiving Eve, not New Years Eve.

Why would you assume they aren't selling beer? It looked like they even had a VIP area close to the stage. I think it was set up like a concert with merch, drinks, food, bathrooms, and more.

Don't you or didn't you live in NYC? My understanding is that there is a fairly long running large gathering of people somewhat in the middle of Manhattan which culminates for some odd reason around 12:00 after which the fine members of the NYPD manage to scatter everyone off into the side streets or down into the subway.
That aside, most cities have at least one or two staged events for the public to attend on NYE which doesn't draw quite as well as it does in NYC however anywhere from a few thousand to double digit thousands is common...at least in the cities I've live in or near.
Again....pick your gathering for whatever reason. A lot of it is the mere fact that you are there is that is the attraction. You're smarter than Rojo....which isn't necessarily a compliment...so I'd expect you'd get this.
