For about the past 2 years, I have been getting into a routine of running 5 miles at least 3 times a week, like most of you it's become an activity that really brings me joy. I would always be checking the weather at work anticipating my regular session. It really has done much for my overall mental and physical health.
Back in March, I came down with a pretty bad case of Influenza A. It had me absolutely bedridden for an entire week, with barely enough energy to move from my bed to the couch and vice versa. I have never felt such fatigue in my life. It must have been a particularly bad case since I haven't had the flu since pre-covid times, and admittedly could have done better to stay up to date with the flu shot.
After getting over the initial symptoms, I noticed that I had and continue to have a lingering muscle fatigue, that has lasted for about a month by now. I feel like it's been very gradually improving, but last week when I tried going for a jog, I could barely make it a mile. My legs felt weighted down, I was pretty out of breath only a couple blocks in, and needed to take regular breaks. I can attribute some of it to not being active for a month, and understand that patience is key for recovering my strength.
In the mean time I have been keeping up with a calisthenic full body routine with free weights and do feel some improvement, just not completely back to normal, and noticing I need more recovery time than I did before.
Has anyone dealt with a similar case? I'm trying to see what to expect, and if anyone has any tips/pointers about helping to get back to my regular routine.
