So this is apparently making the rounds to all the news outlets today. If they are universally hated, I cant believe that Nike just shot these out without lots of research and test marketing.
There are a lot of women at Nike that thought this was OK, then scurried for cover when this got ugly.
I'm sure that Nike works with their elite athletes to develop competition uniforms. At some point some of the athletes probably requested the one piece bathing suit looking uniform for track and field. In fact, it is less revealing than what a lot of western women wear in competition. Lauren Fleshman knows this because she was a pro runner and was probably involved in the process.

I am sympathetic to the athletes who do not want to wear the thing, but I find it odd that out of all the outlets that reported on the story: NPR, FOX News, CNN, NYT, MSNBC, and countless online "news websites," not a single reporter was able to speak with a designer at Nike to get more information on who designed these things and why they are shaped the way they are shaped. Am I wrong? Did I miss it somewhere? That would actually be interesting information. Is it really just a bunch of men in a room? Is it professional athletes? Is it non-athletic women? Is it a group of fashion designers hired from Ralph Lauren or Louis Vuitton or Hermes who just don't understand sports and body movement? How about a journalist actually look into this issue? Maybe LRC can do that?
