The Oregon shipwreck has been a long time coming, but the dominos are beginning to fall. It started with Dan Watcke transferring out to Villanova not even a semester in. All things considered not too crazy, sometimes you just don't find your fit the first time around. However, in the recent light of Burns being out for achilles issues, and NOW Birnbaum with a stress fracture, things aren't looking great for that 2023 class. The nail in the coffin has finally struck - Archie Noakes (AUS), has entered the transfer portal and presumably wants out from Oregon. After an 8:08 3k in December he disappeared, presumably injured from Jerry's "one size fits all" strategy. After running 4:01, 7:53, and 13:52 in high school, good on him for getting out now before he burns years of eligibility for a handful of races. The question remains, how does Oregon continue to get such cream of the crop recruits despite all the setbacks? What are the top prospects for Noakes and anyone else smart enough to jump ship (Burns, Birnbaum?), surely Washington, Oklahoma State, UNC, Wisconsin (His original commitment)? Jerry cant keep getting away with this.
