Replace track 10,000m at world championships with the XC

Olympics too? Or maybe even both track and Xc at oympics. More people can qualify. XC is one of the most popular sports at many High schools by numbers. It needs to be in olympics long before tag football.

Yep definitely Olympics too. An Olympic XC would be epic.

Standalone events like The Ten, or Night of the 10,000m PBs could continue - as ways to qualify for the XC. Basically the reverse of what happens now - a few slots in the XC would be available for people with epic track times.

We need to accept reality that a 23 minute jog followed by a 4 minute burn-up is just too boring.

This would both invigorate XC and get rid of something terrible.

PS I'm a club runner in the UK which has a thriving XC circuit - having it as a World Champs event would draw in a lot of those casual runners into the track event - most completely ignore it atm.

PS not sure about numbers - I'm pretty agnostic. I think you'd probably have to limit Olympics to 3, as in the Marathon. But for World Champs perhaps you could open it up (for eg maybe automatically giving the 5k qualifiers an entry if they want it).

I like this idea. On a related note, I think it's dumb to use World XC races as qualifiers for the 10,000 meters on the track.
