I don't think it's sad; it's called life. If no one's willing to pay you to "chase the dream," that's called a hobby. Don't quit your day job.
Exactly right. And most from what I see don’t have any other jobs. Too busy posting photos of cappuccinos, cats, dogs and themselves on social media the rest of the day instead of getting a real job.

What do you all think that pro female athletes earn? I know there is little transparency out there regarding salaries but id be curious to hear what everyone thinks.
(P.S sorry if you disagree with some of the examples I chose- just a vague idea of the the categories is what I was trying to show!)
Cateorgy one: current US superstars basically. Examples: Alicia monson, Elise cranny, Nikki hiltz, like Grant fisher for the men’s side
Category two: older athletes reaching end of careers but have been around forever and are pretty established. Likely reading end of career soon. Examples: Emma Coburn, Sara hall, Jenny Simpson, molly huddle, Courtney freirichs (Evan jager for the men)
Category 3: mid range young ish pros like sage hurta, Josette Andrews, Courtney Wayment, krissy gear, Weini kelati, Elly henes
category 4: likely will qualify for USAS but kind of just “eh”- Hannah steelman, Logan jolly, Julia haymach, Ella Donaghu, Taryn Rawlings, Maddie boreman, katie wasserman, Katie Camarena, katie rainsberger (lots of Katie’s haha)
Category 5: ncaa or high school studs/ likely soon to be new ncaa pros : Olivia Markezich, Maia Ramsden, Valby, Tuohy
also anyone know what pros make in Australia? Always been curious what someone like Genevieve lacaze or Jess hull would make?
Why would you compare US distance women to Grant Fisher?
There is no US women running 5k and 10k that can compete on the biggest stage. In those events, our best women would be 300m behind the fastest African. Fisher, is right with the fastest Africans in a drag race.
Therefore, no US distance women should be getting paid as much as Grant Fisher.
1500 and 3k are slightly less embarrassing.
I remember when Cory McGee was on the block for $250k/year

And how much did Tyson Gay made, in those times?

We used to joke about how many hyper fit athletes in Eugene, Boulder, and Flagstaff were on food stamps or disability payments just to survive. That is a very sad reality for many post-collegiates chasing the pro dream.
Nothing is stopping them from getting a part time job. Most don't because they would rather hang out. Meanwhile others like Laura Muir goes to vet school and becomes a veterinarian. Martin Hehir (ok not the top of the elite, but still a pro) manages to race to 7th place in the 10K Trials, and 6th in the marathon Trials while going to med school/residency and having 3 kids. Its all about drive and determination. No one wants to hear how you need to go on food stamps if you sit home half the day.

I looked Martin Hehir up and was impressed until the #girldad hashtag (*I'm allowed to say this b/c I'm a woman), which is pure cringe. Just say you're a father! #prouddad or something.
Would you say #boydad? No, because that sounds gay. You should be proud of either gender.
The same goes with #boymom. (are they fishing for some special accolade? just say you're a parent FFS.

🙄 Oh please. Go get a life woke girl. You missed the whole point AND no one cares.
I find it amusing that there are so many runners calling themselves “pro” runners, who would starve to death if they had to actually support themselves through their running. Yes, I’m calling out 80% of the “pros”.

This is woke, that is woke, everything that you can’t put into words because you’re too stupid, is woke.
Category one: current US superstars basically. Examples: Alicia monson, Elise cranny, Nikki hiltz, like Grant fisher for the men’s side
Grant - he's at the top of this list. 200K base at least.
Elise, Nikki - 120K Base. Elise may get hit with reductions. Alicia Monson - On is a different kinda company. Hard to say, but prob 100K base at least.
Category two: older athletes reaching end of careers but have been around forever and are pretty established. Likely reading end of career soon. Examples: Emma Coburn, Sara hall, Jenny Simpson, molly huddle, Courtney freirichs (Evan jager for the men)
Emma - Prob still on contract renegotiated near her peak. Guess around 120-150K
J Simpson - so popular, but switched to Puma recently. I guess 100K plus.
Category 3: mid range young ish pros like sage hurta, Josette Andrews, Courtney Wayment, krissy gear, Weini kelati, Elly henes
Weini an outlier in this group. She's prob at least 80K. Elly Henes had breakthrough race last year at The 10, but not amazing results elsewhere. Maybe 60-80K. Josette strong overall, prob 60-80K. Everyone else in this group approx 50-75K
category 4: likely will qualify for USAS but kind of just “eh”- Hannah steelman, Logan jolly, Julia haymach, Ella Donaghu, Taryn Rawlings, Maddie boreman, katie wasserman, Katie Camarena, katie rainsberger (lots of Katie’s haha)
I'd guess Ella at 45-60 K, everyone else 20-50K.
Category 5: ncaa or high school studs/ likely soon to be new ncaa pros : Olivia Markezich, Maia Ramsden, Valby, Tuohy
Valby and Touhy will be big signings. 100K and up for base, plus signing bonus. Others 70-90K.
And so based on those salaries 50-80K how does one survive without a part time job? It’s not like CO or CA are cheap to live in
Older category 2 athletes like Emma Coburn and Sarah Hall may earn good performance and competition fees, but their earnings are probably not as high as superstars. Mid-level young professionals, Category 3, can earn decent amounts, but they will likely earn less than more established athletes. Category 4 most likely earn the least since they are just starting their careers and have not yet achieved much success. NCAA and Division 5 high school students are likely not financially rewarded for their athletic achievements. In the case of Australia, the earnings of professional female athletes may be comparable to their American counterparts, but may also depend on the specifics of the sports industry in that country and the level of popularity of specific female athletes.
No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)
