I guarantee you she could not. Running a 1500, translating poetry (which I'm sure she's impressive at), and aerospace engineering are different skill sets. Furthermore, given her political views, she probably doesn't want to design more rockets and airplanes.
What are her political views? you know most women are pro choice right?
If you look at her work, you can see she's super environmentalist and super into "anti-colonialism" and noble savage type stuff. Aerospace engineering would require designing planes, rockets, or missiles that burn lots of carbon. It might involve working for Boeing, Lockheed, the US Military, or Elon Musk. That clearly goes against her political views.
I used to like it when people were judged for who they were and not praised or disparaged for what their political views were. In the words of Johnny Sack, “that ship has sailed.”
Honestly the day the West doesn't let young men and women study/write/opine about niche topics and utopian futures... is the day we forget what makes us great.
All the major figures in the Western canon were aristocratic sadboys/girls who were mocked in their time for the same stuff.
posters like this are why humanities courses should be required in college. why bother trying to understand historical and cultural perspectives? we have money to make!
It's more of "Do I have the money to spend on humanities credits?"

I didn't pay a bunch of money to pursue my hobbies that have no real value in the world.
If she's so smart, then she's wasting her intelligence. We'd be better off if she was using her brain to do something useful.
But it's her choice to do what she wants with her life.
If you pay for a PhD ... you're not doing it right.
Nothing is free unless your time is worthless. A PhD could take 5 years of your life. That's a waste of time for many people even if they get paid a stipend.

When people say "pay a bunch of money" they are usually not talking about opportunity cost. Either way, why do you define what's a waste and not her?
What if there is nothing she loves more than studying and writing about environmental literature?
It's a relatively flexible pursuit that would allow her to continue training as a pro.
You have to be the dumbest fool on a site that is filled with them. You have no clue what you are talking about but you say it as if you do. You are king Dunning-Kruger.
My 24yo niece works as an aerospace engineer. She does not design planes, rockets or missiles. She works on fuel development. She has a master's degree in engineering and works for NASA in Huntsville, because she loves doing it- and she sure as hell is not paid the big bucks you think they make. Ramsden has everything she needs to succeed in her PhD training, and this gives her a leg up when she retires from running. She should be applauded but, jeez, she fails to live to the expectations of someone she has never met and never will. Poor you.

What things have value in the world?
Lots of things. It's impossible to get a good plumber or electrician around here. Seems there's a shortage of construction workers, diesel mechanics, welders etc. Healthcare workers are in high demand and that's not going away. Plenty of white collar work needed to make the modern world go around too.
I don't believe there's a great shortage of environmental literary scholars, we have enough of them already going to UN climate conferences lecturing us about white supremacist capitalism or angling for jobs with the government. Unlike plumbers, they could probably be replaced with an LLM.

I am very glad people like Ramsden do have such narrow views of human worth!
You want people to do jobs you won't do because its (in your opinion) too expensive to employ such labor currently?

That's great! Not sure what you disagree with me about.

Unfortunately people can’t get past politics. They are taught to hate by the media. Funny thing is they feel the need to disparage her and her accomplishments based on an assumption of her political views. They never even met her. People try their hardest to find something bad in the best of people. Sad.

It's just jealously that she can pursue professional track and field and a niche passion - preemptively enjoying her 20s in a way these posters never could/did.
