But will she ever lose to Leachman? Guessing she’ll take the Ws over the time trial times. Also I actually do think she can run 15:30ish by the end of HS. Sky is the limit for her, she started focusing on running later than Leachman.
What a stupid take. Let them line up. Ritz could have run Foot Locker like Leachman. Everyone knows NIN was a joke with the mud. Neutralized the talent. Now we know that Ritz is a 4:44/9:52 runner, so not the GOAT.
Two amazing talents. But based on history, I'd be amazed if we're talking about either of them in ten years. But given that Addy's dad was a pro, perhaps she will follow a smarter path and stay healthy.
He made 3 olympic teams. He stayed healthier than most.

Ritzenhein and Leachman and their coaches clearly have very different approaches.
No, it's not their coaches. It's that Colorado doesn't do indoor track and Texas starts their outdoor track season the first week in February. It's not about the coaches. Different states have different schedules.
Many states are just starting with their early spring meets, while Texas is already starting their state championship season in a few days. Because of the high temperatures in summer, Texas finishes their outdoor season 4 or 5 weeks ahead of many other states.
Actually, Leachman and Forsyth crushed themselves just by going out stupidly hard. Ritz ran smart and won the race.
Right now Leachman is about 5 sec/mile faster than Ritz. Long term though I would bet on Ritz to be more successful. Reasonable chance also that Ritz keeps improving to make NXN 2024 a very compelling matchup.
The worse the conditions at NXN 2024 the higher Ritzenhein will finish. If NXN happens to have good weather, Leachman will finish ahead of Ritzenhein.
But don't forget about Jane Hedengren. If she is healthy she has an excellent shot to beat Ritzenhein as well.
Willing to wager Addy doesnt come within 20 seconds of 15:25 in high school.

Actually Leachman and Ritzenehin were about even last winter. Since then, Leachman has improved much faster than Ritzenhein.

That would mean Ritzenhein would run 15:45.
Since Ellie Shea has run 15:46, I wouldn't bet against Ritzenhein running just a second faster than Ellie Shea. Shea is very good, but I would think that with her excellent genes, Ritzenhein could run faster than Shea.

Shalane Flanagan High School: Marblehead (Mass.) High School, Class of 2000 HS Personal Bests: 800m: 2:17 Mile: 4:46 2-Mile: 10:24 5K XC: 17:08
Look up the high school times for Alicia Monson, Emily Sisson, etc.
It's clear both Leachman (whose 5,000 was terrific) and Ritzenhein are talented. How talented will take time to see, and we've certainly seen many young woman shine in high school and then see little development as they get to college. For both of them, though, we are all on the outside: we don't know how hard/easy they train; how much pressure is put on them; how willful they are--all of which influence how far they will go.

In XC 2023 Leachman did way more races than Addy- just look at their milesplit profiles. Coaches control what invitationals their teams attend and which runners compete. And look at Elizabeth’s 2023 outdoor track season. She did many more races and more races per meet. Niwot’s top runners do select invitationals and race very few meets- the team’s first real race was in the middle of Sep despite starting school in the beginning of August. That is the philosophy for their top runners. Focus on their training and perform at a high level when racing opportunities arise.

Fortunately, neither Leachman nor Ritzenhein have their coaches and parents putting pressure on them. Leachman puts more a little pressure on herself than Ritzenhein does, and trains harder. So in that sense Ritzenhein has more long term upside, in theory at least.
But it's very possible that there is an Alicia Monson or Parker Valby type of girl in high school right now that is barely breaking 11 minutes in the 3200, that will end up being better than both of them. In the decade between 15 years old and 25 years old, females improve at very different rates. Some improve very little, and some improve massive amounts.

Leachman runs the local meets as part of her workouts, as opposed to running a workout by herself while her teammates are at a meet. They aren't "races" like how most people use that word.
Leachamn only had 4 real races during the winter season - Texas Tech indoor 3000, Millrose Games mile, and the 2 mile and 5k at Nike Indoor Nationals.

That is definitely true, but multiple 9:45 3200m efforts are still pretty taxing even for someone at her level!
