Herb Lindsay was 5'3", 180, all muscle. Greg Meyer a close second at 5'5", 170.
Allan
LOL Alan, is this a joke? I leave in Michigan and have met both several times. Herb Lindsay is NOT 5'3", way off sir. Greg Meyer is NOT 5'5" Neither Greg or Herb ran at anywhere close to what you listed. Serious question sir, where did you get that from?

Whether he intended humor or not, it’s a joke to claim a 5’3”/180 pound dude could have ever run 46:00 for 10 miles. Was this just based on some deluded eyeballing?

Deluded facts. Lindsay never ran 46.00. His best was 47;02 -- the same as mine.
Herb was about 5'9 150 pounds. One of the best road racers of his era. His build was once described as a halfback with all the air let out.
He was a waif. His "build" was greatly over exaggerated. Not sure who started this. I think compared to your average Boulderiite (13" neck, 30" sleeve) he looked big. He wasn't..
Meyer (whom I raced frequently) was about the same height (6') as me, but with no shoulders/chest.

Ok I’m not saying you’re wrong, but what do you know about this 46:00 from NYC in 1980 that I don’t? Point-to-point downhill or mismeasured course or something?
Just a few minutes now until race time and Herbert Donald Lindsay is getting ready to blast off. It's something to see: Lindsay practically snaps, crackles
Sports Illustrated and the New York Times (especially) are not citable resources. Everyone back in the day knew the Trevira couse was not legit. Lindsay had never had a performance anywhere/anytime that would indicate he was capable of 46:00. Not even close.

This. George is right.
I met him many, many times at races in Michigan, including the Clare St. Patrick's Day 10k, not just the Crim 10 miler.
His build was simply bigger than runners like Rodgers and Shorter, so his bigger legs and build were highly exaggerated.
He had one he!! of a couple years on the roads.
As for the 46:00 versus Greg Meyer's 46:13, George knows better than me and most of you on this thread. Some sources claim a minute short, others don't. Regardless, he was a tough cookie as was Meyer.
I don't think this is actually Allan as he's respectful even if he says something wrong. I'd guess this is a copy cat and nothing more, but it's only a guess.

You know what? You're right. Impersonation is one of the worst offenses on the message board. FIXED

Thumbs up.
Allan may disagree with someone, but he's truly respectful.
