Not impressed by this at all, he ran 3:37-3:40 three times as a high schooler last year. At least a 3:42 or faster would be considered good by him

did he run unattached? curious whether or not he redshirts this outdoor season.
And what did you run, Sparky?
He said he's coming off a pretty bad injury on his Strava (believe he said a stress fracture/reaction). Seems like Jerry's off to a great start with his star studded recruits.
The "villain" doesn't seem very formidable these days. It's early, though.
He was in uniform
I don’t think it’s a big deal as long as he’s healthy moving forward. It’s a rust-buster in March in breezy 50 degree weather and he was only beaten by one of his teammates, Elliott Cook. Hopefully he can run a few ticks faster at Stanford next week, and if so he’ll be in a decent spot to PR later in the spring.
For a first race and rust buster 99.9 of college freshmen would take it!!!!! Kids a stud and will be a stud….wish with modern technology the usernames were a list of everyone’s PR’s.
I've given leeway to a bunch of other top recruits in recent years (NP alums, Kessler, Tuohy, etc) for taking some time to get adjusted to college, and I'm inclined to say the same thing here. He's adapting to new training in a new environment with new people. Progress isn't linear. The fact that he's healthy and running ok times (though not PBs) is a good sign.
It's annoying that Oregon hasn't done anything of note since Jerry took over, despite all the top men's recruits they got. But 3:45 in March in mediocre weather isn't bad for a true freshman. I don't think there's reason to worry unless he's stuck in an injury cycle.
I’m not impressed with the construction of your post. You’ve clearly been working hard your entire life for this moment. Rather than bit$! and moan coherently, you fell way short of the mark. I expected so much more.
Yeah I think we can all agree Jerry has been a bad hire for Oregon
Not sure if calling him healthy is really an accurate representation of what's going on, he had to DNS the 800m due to his adductor flaring up and coming off a big injury.
That being said 3:45 in those conditions aren't bad and he's still got a decent shot at PRing this season.

“only beaten by one of his teammates” bro did you look at the field? This post has five examples of excuses / coping packed into two sentences. Insane. 3:45 would make him a contender for a DIII title, it’s a 4:04 mile equivalent, which would put him somewhere in the top 250 in the mile for the season that just ended two weeks ago. This isn’t a good performance. Jerry sucks.
What about all the true freshman not at Oregon who ran 3:59 or faster in the last three months? Technically, they’re all way ahead of him, right?
Schumacher's methods result in many injuries. It's always better to be undertrained, healthy, and ready to race versus overtrained, injured, and on the sidelines.
I posted a post race interview in the other thread. A couple of points: 1) He expected to be faster ("Sux" is the word he used to describe this time) 2) Will run 800 or 1500 next week - no way 5000 since his mileage is low 3) He started last year at 4:05 and got to 3:57.
It’s a 4:03 mile equivalent. Yeah I saw the field wasn’t competitive but that’s kind of part of my justification/excuse/coping or whatever you want to call it. Being beaten by one Senior teammate in your rust buster isn’t a BFD.
I’m not claiming that this was a good result. The fact that he’s coming back from an injury is disappointing, as I was hoping he was ready to throw down some exciting times. But it doesn’t necessarily mean a whole lot, either. Let’s see what the next 3 months brings.

PRs really mean nothing. I don't care if the OP has run 3:32, it's a stupid take.
He didn't run those 3:37-3:40 times in March. In fact, last year, he ran a 4:14 1600 on March 24th. Let's give him a little time to progress before we start using the word "pathetic".
