Why isn’t Nico Young’s time listed on the College Rankings?!
Why isn’t Nico Young’s time listed on the College Rankings?!
The NCAA requires a meet to have a certain number of events including field events. The ten has no field events. Will it count as the collegiate record?
I always thought this idea was stupid. The original thinking was that if meets were standardized you could then sell a standard product to the average fan (this was from the coaching convention).
Personally I think event specific meets are good for the sport. Shorter and more exciting. A pole vault summit, have a throw only competition so people can pay attention.
The rules make it stinky and also eliminate a lot of schools from being able to host a meet
The NCAA doesn't maintain collegiate records. They only care about NCAA Championships meet records.
I think the requirements are different for records vs qualifying for Regionals/Nationals. It is shown as the record, but not on the qualification list.
This is an example of college track being total doo doo. I get it, we want marks from real meets but this bad boy was done at a legit meet. It’s not like we are counting a practice session pole vault PR on the bungee
Nico is credited as the record holder, for both the indoor 5000m and outdoor 10000m, on this list:
As I think about it, Nur had the same situation for the 5000 in 2022, no?
this isn't complicated. it's not TFRRS or performance list because it's not a college meet and not a legal qualifying time to advance. i am sure other 10k runners, who, mind you, might not be quite as fast, might like a pacer and to chase fisher to a good time. and to not have to sit around all day all meet to do it.
we had this same silly discussion on the PA kid. you want to go to state, go to an actual HS indoor meet your state counts.
anyhow, i think young showed up on the coaches list but not the other. given the nature of the thing i'm ok with that kind of asterix grey area response. i wouldn't be surprised if like the lester kid who transferred to cal poly we barely or don't see him outdoors at all. and that if he does well enough he just goes pro. ok, am i then going to go to the mat on whether that pro meet gets counted as a college time? not so much.
Because it doesn’t count, it was at a non collegiate meet
I think someone needs to justify why this meet is different from some of the BU indoor meets. Not as many events I know but really???
