Hello,
I have coached a high school junior for about 18 months. He got his ferritin tested at the end of his Soph. track season. 21. His doctor recommended 3 ferrous sulfate tablets per day (which I thought would wreck his gut with constipation). He got up to 50mpw during the summer and had it tested at the start of cross country. 34. He kept having stomach issues, and about a week before the final meet of the season he switched to the heme sourced iron supplement that I take (proferrin, i am also anemic). He got up to upper 50s during the winter and got his levels tested this week before our first track meet. 23. I found out that he's been alternating between 3 proferrins a day and the next day taking a ferrous sulfate tablet. I am curious if this could be a reason that his levels have dipped. So far he has looked better than he ever has in workouts. I'm curious if there is an underlying cause that is causing him to leak so much iron.. Has anyone else run into this issue?
Thanks,
