1:57/3:50 man in Kenya (part of refuggee team) popped for doping. Why would someone so slow dope?

Athletics Kenya actually tests their athletes. I think other countries just aren’t testing the way Kenya is.

They weren't popped by Kenyan anti-doping nor were most of the other athletes that've been busted.

Because running is quite literally the only possible path to living a good life for many people in Kenya. That goes doubly for people in refugee camps. Of course they dope.

It's like Rojo and I have been telling people for years. If you're going to dope, make sure you're fast first.

I think we forget that some people are legitimately stupid. Like, mentally handicapped. Guy probably thought drugs would make him an Olympian. Remember Daniel Komen actually didn't think that fitness would go away if he stopped training.

Don't know anything about him but maybe those times were on crap tracks in old spikes off crap training, crap nutrition etc. He may actually have shown some real talent in training camps.

Some agent/coach may have spotted him mixing it with some elites and thought maybe he could develop into a pro with a bit of "help".

Maybe to give himself a shot at getting faster? Or because everyone is doing it? Don't all dopers to just be faster? Maybe he would have been a 4:20 miler without doping. It is not rocket science. If it is widespread it goes from top to bottom.

Of course slow runners dope too. I can't believe this is even a question.

Just think for a second. The situation is bad enough in South Sudan that there are refugees. His times may not be good for Kenya, but they are good enough to make a South Sudan refugee team. We aren’t sure if doping was intentional, if he did it to get to 3:50 (and on the team), or if he did it to try to get faster. Oh, and he’s not Kenyan. South Sudan is a separate country so these ‘positives in Kenya’ might not be super related to a South Sudan refugee, I think he might have a different set of circumstances.
