People are mocking this but if JW could get into 1:43xx shape again, then this result could make him very dangerous indeed at 1500m.

Yeah, Wightmans comeback is going fine, not that this performance is all that. Sounds like he’s gonna do a big block of training now. Jakob would almost certainly lap Jake in an indoor 5K. Josh Kerr might too, though he’s never run a good one.

can we just remind you that jakob could run the wr for 5km if he actually raced it adn trained for it and wightman closed in 56 of a 3:34 pace and got beat by cam myers

People are preparing for the Olympics. Don’t analyze every piece of their preparation and compare unless you want to play the fool.

This thread feels super clickbaity, especially saying he beat a WC bronze medalist who is for the most part a pure 800m guy who isn’t particularly exceptional at 5K. I know that Wightman’s coming back from injury but 13:52 isn’t super spectacular, especially when you consider that Kerr has run 13:23.

In Jake’s defense the race was run in terrible conditions. Rainy and windy. Probably cost everyone about 10 seconds. But yes Jake is not a 5K runner, and losing to B/C team Brit 5k guys regardless of times shows that.

Timothy Cheruiyot ran 13:47 in Nairobi in March 2020. Nobody much cared one way or another and he ran 3:28 in August 2020. So I wouldn’t read too much into any of this. But if one is racing one is probably not injured.

Jake is not really a 5k guy. He’s more 800m/1500m. But he’s got a PB and he’s not injured. He’s getting good blocks of training done..

We don’t really know what shape Jakob is in right now. But I doubt it’s 5k PB shape..

It’s going to be interesting watching how it all plays out.

Yeah but Wightman has way more sprint speed than Ingebrigtsen, Kerr, and Nuguse. He probably has more sprint speed than Centro and Willis too, he just hasn’t always had enough strength to use it at the end of 1500m races. If he gets in 13:30 shape he could send Jakob home devastated in Paris.

I mean we pretty much know he’s in 3:34 shape with him running it/the equivalent 3 times in 3 weeks. Yes last time since Feb. 22 but I doubt much changed fitness-wise with the whole trip back from Australia. He’ll have to hit a different level in the summer clearly, but that’s OK.
