Outkicked Mo Ahmed and Woody Kincaid in a tactical sub-27 race. This must make him a favorite for the Olympic team, given that he just beat every contender in the US besides Fisher, who got him by .7s.
Also big shoutout to Habtom Samuel also going under the old collegiate record in 26:53. The NCAA is crazy deep right now. You can argue about the shoes as much as you want, but Nico just outkicked an Olympic Silver medalist in a sub-27 race 1 week after 8k of hard racing. He is a historically great NCAA athlete, and Samuel was 1s behind him.

To be fair to Ahmed, he brought that race back to the lights. They were almost 5 seconds off and he took the lead and got them there and held the lead for a few minutes. So he was probably gassed from that.
Does Nico go pro now, or does he run one last outdoor track season for NAU? Obviously the Olympics are the top priority, but if he stays and wins an outdoor title, he’ll probably win the Bowerman. I don’t know if he cares about that, just sayin’ he’d be the likely winner.

Awesome performance and now he should take his foot off the accelerator for awhile.
XC, indoor, NCAA outdoor, then summer outdoor??? Hell no. He needs to take the money now and take a break from racing to reset for a big summer ahead. It's a bit sad seeing him go and miss a few more titles but who cares about a Bowerman when he has a huge contract and potential Olympic team on the line.

That is true, but tbf to Nico, Ahmed didn't bring the race back to the lights until Nico made a move and Ahmed responded. Nico had to run wide on a couple curves to do it too. I think Ahmed got outraced fair and square, which bodes real well for Nico.

I agree, aiming for the Olympics should be his top priority. I just think it’s interesting that after the past several years of many people here bemoaning distance runners not winning the Bowerman, we could have had a distance running sweep this year with Nico and Valby.

Samuel's speed really really has to suck, he only finished 4th in the 5k and 7th in the 3k a week ago well behind Nico.

Just couldn't hang for sub 4 closes, but I doubt Wolfe could've ran that today
Nico did a great job. The enire race was pretty amazing. I was there in person, and on some level the race was deceptive - becuase the pace was steady and the field was so deep, unless you were looking at splits and had an idea of what they meant, the race didn't really look that exciting. Of course with 600m to go it lights up a lot, so then it was obvious that they were flying. Very deep and very fast.

Fisher is probably still a little better than him and I'm not sure how he'll fare against Kincaid in a tactical race, but otherwise his only competition for the Olympic team is Klecker who he dispatched pretty easily today. It's looking good for him this summer if he can keep this fitness up.
