He has a post on his IG-says he's sitting NYC half out due to a minor setback.

Smart. Was a bad idea to do that so close to USOT.

Hopefully just something minor, he did look a little frayed at the Trials compared to Young. Want to see both of them in peak shape come the Olympics

It was a stupid decision to begin with to think that he could run NYC HM to begin with. Now he has an issue because of it.
He made a stupid decision back when he raced Manchester with a stress reaction. Almost cost him his Olympic position.
He needs to stop racing and just train for 6 months. His bad decisions will shorten his career. Just like Jared Ward.

It scares me- I hope he's fine for Paris. Nothing wrong with running this (if he was healthy) this long after the trials.

Hassan is running World Cross after Tokyo. Americans seemed to have fallen into a rarely racing mode lately.

hasn't run in 5 days per strava. Probably his femur bone injury catching up with him - he ran 10 miles one week after getting the mri that confirmed bone stress, totally different approach to normal

He got dry needling a week or so ago. I figured that couldn't have been a good sign. I also saw Young seems to have a little flareup on his achilles. They need to be careful.

He never planned on running this race if he made the team. This was there to make money if he missed the Oly squad.

It’s a good thing Seidel didn’t have that mindset in Tokyo. I’m sure Mantz doesn’t either. The kid doesn’t really seem to be afraid of much.

Smart not to race NY, and a bad idea to have considered it. I think the kid just likes to race. Part of his identity as a runner is to get out and mix it up- from 1500 to marathon. Taking 6 months to just train is probably not the best idea for a guy like Mantz.

People who are afraid to race the best place the Olympics over majors. Imagine if 70% of the runners who would beat you were not allowed to run because of country entry limits.

Mantz is the prototypical "running for 1st American-born, US-based" runner currently. No credentials to be a sub-2:03 guy and running shoulder-to-shoulder with the full pack of east Africans.
