I guess I was solely focused on hardware and not software. Not going to see cool new software at Best Buy

It's a sign out country is in decline. I've noticed it too over the years. Look at videos on youtube of people shopping from the 90s and early 2000s at malls, etc. It's a whole different world.

All of the amazing technology that we have today is based on WW2 technology. We need Putin to hurry up and start WW3 now that Germany has gone soft. Hundreds of millions of people might die, but we will have cooler gadgets once the dust settles!

I did forget about drones. I guess those are breakthrough hardware. Although I’ve never been into them.

Same with printers. They've been perfected.

Funny you should point this out because I needed to go to an Apple store a few days ago and I was blown away with how happening the whole thing is. First off, the physical space is astounding, both in it's grandiosity and in exquisite detailing. Not a single detail isn't perfectly integrated and flawless. Second, the varieties of products are all compelling and sought after. And lastly, you get the feeling that people are coming there just to be there, and it does have a tremendously hip feel and ambience.

And btw, the service was really really good - friendly and helpful without being too much so.

I'm telling you, those guys are doing something right. I can't think of too many other retail spots out there quite like that.

Sometimes the biggest innovations are things that happen behind the scenes. LED lightbulbs, for example, are doing more to reduce our energy use than any technology improvement ever before. They only became the dominant option in 2019. A lot of people will talk about AI from a software perspective, but not realize that Nvidia's modern CUDA cores (Hopper architecture) are what's driving model complexity to shoot up. LLMs have been theorized for like 40 years, but we never had the computing power to make it a reality until now. Personally, I consider it a good thing that the primary innovations of the last 10 years are not primarily consumer products, but are actually genuinely having a positive impact on the world.

I was at Best Buy right after the pandemic. There were two people in the store. Was back there about 6 months ago and there were a lot more people in the store. But nothing like 10 years ago.

Personally I miss the days when computers weren't everywhere and people would actually go outside.

People get home from their cubicle and their work computer only to get home and sit in front of another computer screen or TV screen.

Sitting in an airport and everyone is looking at their cell phones, nobody is talking to each other.

It's pathetic.

Like you, I was indifferent to the same old products being released. There didn't seem like there was any innovation. That is, until I put on my first VR headset. I was instantly blown away and fell in love.

Of course, VR has been accessible for a long while now, but I’m still very much in love with it.

Smart TV, PC, laptop, iPad, iPhone, and iWatch, are just different size computers with difference size screens. That's already 6 different screen sizes. We don't need any more screen sizes. We already got them all.

Most of the new technology inventions will be with software, not hardware.

The Iwatch is useful for being able to monitor your heart.

Last time I was in a Best Buy, I noticed they had blu-ray burners. But they did not have blu-ray writable discs to burn in them. What a bunch of clowns.

Biggest energy savings I have had is turning heat down to 52, which is essentially off and wearing more clothes in the house.
