He probably could have won the 3k with how it ended lol. So, sure, if he wins the indoor world championship 1500m, ill consider him the 1500m indoor world champ.
Absolutely. Kerr could have entered but probably didn't want the risk of possibly not winning.
Kerr and Nuguse both liked the idea of doing a longer race more based on their strength than speed/sharpness as they do winter training. Cole and Nordas (well, really Gjert) believe speed will take care of itself if the training is there and you have races and a few specific sessions under your belt. Different philosophies, but both make sense.
If hocker wins today, will you consider him a legit world champion? With Jakob, Kerr and Nuguse all out of it, it’s far from a great field.
With Ingy not there it's a cleaner Championship. And Hocker is too fast for slow twitchers with Achilles problems. But don't worry Shocker, Nordas is Norway's best miler now.

Wow, some of you are too much LOL. Like every other sport in every other decade or era, you can only compete in the Era or against who shows up. I like Hocker's chances , but in a too big field of 14 . many many ways for this to go today.

The 14 thing is pretty obnoxious and was so preventable. 3 heats of 9/10, top 3 in. It throws a real monkey wrench in the whole thing.
Every time I think we have hit peak Lets Run nihilism, someone comes up with something even worse.
Of course he would be a world champion, duh. That's why you go and race and try to win in this thing called "World Indoor championships" . How hard is this to understand? What, it doesn't meet "your" criteria? Well, then you should be holding your own 'world championships' and see who shows up.
Typical lets run poster: "Americans never win anything." American wins something. "Well, they barely won it. They didn't win it by enough." American wins by a little bit more. "Well, it doesn't count because the time was slow." American runs a faster time. "Well it wasn't as fast as Coe/Radusha/El G/Geb/Bekele/Farah] so it doesn't count." American gets a medal with great race tactics. "Well, they didn't win against [person X who didn't show up]." Another post chimes in: "Oh yeah? Well have you ever run 1:41/3:27/26:16? Then you can't comment."
And the thread devolves yet again.
You're not here asking if we should actually consider Kerr the 3K champion, nor are you dumping on St. Pierre as the 3K champ, so perhaps you might want to publish your 1500m criteria to be cosidered a champion for anyone that wins today and we'll all get to see how superior it is.

I know the Achilles comment is intended as a jab at Jakob, but it's really coming off as uninformed since Hocker struggled with an Achilles issue for a while before returning to form last year.
In my day, indoor races were rare. Now high school kids have quality National Championship races all year long. Pre-season, mid-season, end of season, post season. When do they get a chance to recover or train?
Anyone who has run competively knows you can only race who's on the line on the day. If Hocker beats the field he the World Champion. I wish him good luck.
